We were given two complimentary passes to The Escape Game Mall of America. All opinions are my own.
Escape Rooms are all the rage these days. Many people do them for bachelor/bachelorette parties, birthdays, with co-workers, family, or just for fun. My husband and I went to a local low-tech one with six family members and we had a blast. Albeit, we had no idea what we were doing. Lately, we’d been hearing lots of great things about The Escape Game Mall of America. So when my husband and I decided to take our first couples only getaway in 14 years to enjoy all that the mall offers adults, we thought it would be the perfect thing to do. And today, I’m happy to bring you our The Escape Game Mall Of America Review.
But first, if you’re looking for a place to stay during your visit, check out my Radisson Blu Mall Of America Review. Connected right to the mall, it’s a great choice! Another option, just down the road, is the nearby Great Wolf Lodge Bloomington MN.
What Is The Escape Game Mall Of America?
The Escape Game Mall of America offers immersive experiences. Guests are placed into their chosen themed room and you then work with your team to solve the clues and escape! Players are given 60 minutes to complete their assigned mission. The teams are given three free clues. But you’re also allowed an unlimited amount of bonus clues as well. The bonus clues will just add three minutes each to your final end time. (Which really only comes into play if you went with multiple groups and are trying to get the best time.)

Our Mission: Gold Rush
For our fun getaway and visit to The Escape Game at the Mall of America, we settled on Gold Rush. It’s rated as a 7 out of 10 difficulties and since we’re still newbies at escape rooms, we thought that was a good choice.
Our mission was to find the gold. The greedy gold prospector that loved to gamble has gone missing. We were on a race against the mob to locate his stash and time is ticking!
While games can be played with up to eight players at one time, there is also no minimum. Nobody else booked during the time slot that we did, so Mike and I played Gold Rush alone. While it was definitely tricky, we had SO much fun! I loved the fact that we received three free clues to help us along the way. With the simple press of a button located inside the room, the clue(s) would appear on a screen. So helpful when we got stuck!
Time was ticking. We definitely got stumped along the way a few times but this challenge was so much fun! We did need to utilize clues to get us over a few bumps. The one good part of having more people is that you have more ideas and help to solve riddles. So when we got stuck on one particular clue, it would have been good to have more eyes to see it in a different light. However, a free clue got us moving again so it wasn’t a big deal to be a team of two.
I was honestly doubting that we’d be able to escape with just the two of us. But I’m happy to report that we DID! With just 3 seconds (yes SECONDS!) left in the game, we completed the mission and escaped! Talk about pressure!
Would We Do The Escape Game Mall Of America Again?
YES! As a matter of fact, we did! We had such a fun time doing Gold Rush that we went back several hours later and purchased passes to complete The Heist!
When we went to book a second game, we chose a time slot that had two guests, who we didn’t know, already booked. So this time, we’d have a team to play with. We had another great time and, as a team of four, we escaped with 10 minutes to spare! So more heads working together definitely helps.
The Escape Game Mall of America has great hours! We played our first game at 11:20am and our second at 8pm. Their current daily hours are:
- Monday through Saturday 10am-9:30pm
- Sunday 11am-7pm
The Escape Game Minneapolis will be opening their fifth game this spring and from what I’ve been told, it’s going to be amazing!
