Enjoy A Campfire Anywhere, Anytime With The Pop-Up Pit

Our family loves camping, being outdoors, and especially campfires! For my kids, roasting hotdogs and marshmallows over the fire is probably their favorite part. They’d go camping just for that alone! Some weekends are just too busy or the weather doesn’t corporate for an overnight under the stars but now, thanks to the Pop-Up Pit from Fireside Outdoor, that no longer means we can’t still enjoy an evening by the fire! Set-Up

The kids and I wanted to enjoy some of the last warm days of the season with a trip to my brother’s pool and a picnic lunch that, of course, needed to include freshly roasted hot dogs. The plan was to spend a few hours swimming and then enjoy time by the fire roasting our hotdogs. Turned out that the swimming didn’t last long (it was particularly cold both in the water and in the breeze) and boy were we were all happy to have the Pop-Up Pit with us! Not only could we cook our lunch, but we could also cozy up to the warmth of a fire. While the kids were getting cleaned up, I began the work of setting up the Pop-Up Pit and absolutely could not believe how fast and easy it was to set up!

The Pop-Up Pit comes packaged just like a portable camping chair does, making it easy to carry from the car to the campsite, or even from a closet to the back yard! I took all of the components out of the bag which included the base, (also unfolds just like a camping chair) the four metal sides to the pit, and the metal sheeting that sits inside of the Pop-Up Pit.

You can also purchase the kit that comes with the heat shield. The heat shield also rolls up and fits right inside the bag. It’s a great addition for those that want to make sure they leave no trace behind or might be using the fire pit over a heat sensitive surface.

From start to finish it took me less than five minutes to completely set up the Pop-Up Pit on my first try! As a woman, I really appreciate that no hand tools are needed to assemble the fire pit and that it’s so easy to be fire-ready even if my husband isn’t around to help. Growing up, my Mom was a single-parent and was always looking for family-friendly activities to bring us all together. This is a product that she would have loved simply because of the ease of set up and the inexpensive fun it would have brought to our lives. I wish I could go back in time and share this product with her! Now that I’ve set it up once, there’s no doubt set up will go even faster when we use the Pop-Up Pit next! One important safety tip to remember is that the liner is made of steel fibers. If any happen to come lose they can give you your finger a poke so be sure to handle with care!

If you’ve ever had to start a fire you can understand how difficult it can be at times. Even with matches and dry kindling it’s not always a stress free process (especially when the kids are not so patiently waiting to roast hotdogs). I found that the mesh lining used in the base of the Pop-Up Pit allows for the air to move freely, not only aiding in the burning process, but also in the fire starting process. I used a few paper towels to help me get our fire going and within two minutes our wood was burning and the kids were ready to cook!

If I could drag the summer weather into my entire year I probably would but alas, all good things have to come to and end and such was the case with our last afternoon of warm weather fun. As promised, cleaning up after the Pop-Up Pit was a snap! I extinguished the flames with the ice water left from our cooler, (it really does cool down in 90 seconds tops!) folded up the mesh liner and easily and organically disposed of the left over ash (making doubly sure there were no left over hot embers). Though it’s not necessary, I decided to hose my Pop-Up Pit down and dry it before simply rolling the pieces pack up, packing it away, and carrying it to the car. I could have used some dish soap to scrub the mesh totally clean but I’m not bothered by the spot left behind, especially considering how often we’ll be using this affordable, innovative, and memory-making fire pit!

Whether we are out camping as a family, having friends over to hang out and enjoy some glorious fall evenings, or taking off on an overnight outdoor adventure, I’ll be using this Pop-Up Pit all year long! We’re planning an overnight kayaking trip down the South Branch of the Potomac River next Spring and I’m so excited that I’ll have the Pop-Up Pit to take along with me. It’s portable enough that I can fit it down into the drywall of my kayak! There truly are so many places this product can be used.
