I partnered with Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark In Duluth, MN and Visit Duluth to facilitate this post. Even so, all opinions are 100% my own.
Are you thinking of visiting Duluth, MN? Well, we just went! Ever since our last trip (14 years ago and before kids), we had been meaning to get back. Our first trip ever was for our honeymoon in 2003. Then, Mike and I returned the following year to enjoy the beauty again. But finally, in 2018, we made it back for a family vacation!

Upon arrival, I quickly noticed all the pretty flowers and plants that were around the front of the building. I love when I see beautiful landscaping as it’s such a welcoming sight.
What The Edgewater Offers
While I honestly didn’t know what to expect, as reviews I had read have been mixed. I am thrilled to say that we had a fantastic stay. I will say that we were located in the main building with an interior room. But our room was clean, spacious, and perfect for our family. I did notice that some of the rooms that were outdoors with an exterior entrance did look a little older though. So if you’re worried, request a main building room.
After arriving and learning that our room wasn’t quite ready since we were early, I was happy to see that the Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark In Duluth, MN had a welcoming lobby. Comfy couches. Two train tables for the kids. And a wall of windows looking over the water park to keep everyone occupied.
Our Room
We stayed in a family suite that had one king bed and two queen beds. And while bed arrangements are different based on the room style, all rooms include a mini refrigerator and microwave. We were also excited to learn that our room featured an outdoor balcony overlooking Lake Superior! Perfect for watching the beautiful sunsets. And while I could tell you more about our room, check out my video tour below to see it:
Bicycles
Guests can utilize bicycles from the Edgewater, FREE of charge! And they even have helmets! The one downfall is that they don’t have any bikes with toddler seats attached. But Mike was able to take the four older kids out since they had a variety of sizes for everyone else. The best part is that they are nice bikes! High quality that worked great. This was one of our kids’ favorite things to do and they headed out for a ride every day.
Indoor Water Park
This is probably the biggest draw for families. Edgewater is well known for their indoor water park! While not the biggest I’ve seen, it definitely packs a punch of fun. There are two big water slides. (One body slide and one tube slide.) There’s also a small lazy river that we thoroughly enjoyed floating around.
Over in the smaller kids area, there’s also plenty to do. Filled with a variety of buckets, sprayers, slides, steps, and more, kids love zipping around and getting really wet! When the big bucket dumps, you are sure to get soaked.
The activity pool is also really neat. It features a couple of basketball hoops with plenty of balls to go around. The small vortex pool juts off to the side and is really neat. I’ve actually never seen one before. The current zips you around in a floating circle. And an activity pool wouldn’t be complete without a net and floating pad course. Alex and Lucy especially enjoyed getting across this obstacle course.
This fun Water Park also features a hot tub which is especially popular for the adults. We made sure to spend a few minutes here each day before exiting the water park. Perfect for warming up and relaxing.
There is also a concession stand located in the Water Park that offers a variety of snacks, food items, and drinks.
Outdoor Pool
The outdoor pool is located just outside the doors from the water park. My favorite thing about it is that it’s not that deep! It only gets about 4′ 6″ at the deepest. Perfect for families. We spent some time going between the outdoor pool and water park and really enjoyed both. Many water park hotels skip having a regular pool. So this was refreshing to see.
There was also an outdoor hot tub right next to the outdoor pool. While smaller than the indoor one, still a nice place to hang out while still enjoying the outdoors!
Workout Room
I was really surprised at how big the exercise room was here! It’s one of the biggest that I’ve seen at a hotel in a long time. There are multiples of almost every piece of equipment. And you will even find weights, a scale, and fresh water too! The perfect place to get in a quick workout in, even while on vacation.
Playground
Outside of the gated outdoor pool, you’ll find the playground. While the playground was a little faded in color, it was in good repair. It features monkey bars, slides, swings, and more.
The kids really enjoyed it and I liked that there were benches and chairs nearby so I could keep a close eye on everyone. Really just a nice place to burn off some energy and let the kids play.
Business Center
While there is free wi-fi and most people travel with laptops, I was stoked to see Edgewater’s Business Center. And the best part is that it’s free for guests to use! There was a nice long desk with two desktop computers, comfortable computer chairs, and lamps. The room also held a conference table, two side chairs, and an end table. And even a printer. Plus, my family found the television on the wall to be quite a nice addition too.
This room allowed me to get some work done on vacation! And my family was able to be comfortable and entertained in the mean time. Most hotels don’t offer this amenity so I was really impressed with how nice it was.
Mini Golf
Another amenity that guests get to enjoy for free is an outdoor mini golf course. While some of the holes are in need of repair, it was a fun way to kill some time. And did you catch that it was free for guests?! The kids loved it.
Tiki Tom’s Breakfast
Not included with the price of your stay, Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark In Duluth, MN does offer a very affordable and delicious breakfast! And they even use cloth napkins!
Adults are $6.99 while kids are just $2.99 each. And ages 3 and under eat free. We found a huge variety of foods on the buffet including:
- Bagels
- Toast
- Dried Cereal Assortment
- Pancakes
- French Toast Sticks
- Scrambled Eggs
- Ham & Cheese Eggs
- Sausages
- Breakfast Potatoes
- Yogurt
- Fruit
- Oatmeal + Toppings
- Variety Of Juices
- White Milk
- Chocolate Milk
- Ice Water
- Coffee
- & MORE!
They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and if you leave hungry, you have nobody but yourself to blame. We found the food to be absolutely amazing! Even our Mr. Picky Alex left stuffed each day. It was wonderful! And the staff kept the food full and fresh each day we were there. A couple of the options varied just a little day-by-day. But it was a huge spread!
Parking
Throughout the week, we came and left the Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark In Duluth, MN at different times throughout the day. We always found great parking spots as they offer several entrances at Edgewater. So if we couldn’t find a spot by the front door lobby, we just parked around the side and entered their other lobby.
Staff
This is a big one. Staff can make or break any location. So I’m happy to report that we had nothing but friendly helpful staff our entire stay! The front desk workers always had a smile on their face and were ready to help with any request.
The housekeeping staff tidied up our room daily and did a great job. The best part is that our housekeeper would leave friendly notes as well as towel animals for the kids.
Location, Location, Location
I know I already mentioned it but it should be mentioned again. The Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark In Duluth, MN is so close to all the action. Yet not stuck in the congested canal. It’s just a few minutes drive to the lift bridge, boardwalk, aquarium, Park Point, and more. It’s truly the best of both worlds.
In The Details
Overall, I was quite impressed with the Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark In Duluth, MN. They have small little details and decorations throughout the resort that add elements of fun. And while the property may be a little dated in some areas, they truly make up for it by excelling in others.
We had such an amazing little vacation at the Edgewater Hotel & Waterpark In Duluth, MN. They really pack a punch with all that they offer. And their prices are reasonable too. So if you are taking a family trip to Duluth, make sure you consider them for your next stay.
