Easy Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Recipe

This easy chocolate chip banana bread recipe is a must-make if you have a couple of overripe bananas on your counter. It’s so easy to whip together and the results are moist and delicious!

But the best part about this go-to recipe is that you most likely have all the ingredients you need right in your pantry. This bread tastes amazing warm from the oven but can also be enjoyed cool over the next few days.

Why Make Banana Bread?

I have to admit that Banana Bread is one of my regular go-to recipes. Not only does it use up produce (aka – bananas) that would otherwise be inedible, it’s a recipe that’s basically dump and go.

One bowl, minimal mess, and almost everyone loves banana bread. Dump, mix, pour, and bake. SIMPLE!

Nothing can beat a thick slice of homemade chocolate chip banana bread, hot from the oven. Whether you choose to eat it plain or slap some butter on, it can’t be beat.

Steps To Prepare Homemade Chocolate Chip Banana Bread:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. (I suggest 325 degrees if using convection bake.)
  2. Prepare a loaf pan by greasing with butter or just spritz with some non-stick cooking spray.
  3. In a stand mixer (or by hand if you don’t have a mixer), cream together the butter and sugar.
  4. Add the eggs, bananas, and vanilla. Mix until beaten together to create a smooth batter.
  5. Add remaining ingredients EXCEPT the chocolate chips and beat until combined.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Pour batter into your prepared loaf pan.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.

How Do I Know When My Banana Bread Is Done?

In my opinion, the hardest part of baking is deciding when my product is ‘done’. Nobody likes over-baked goods as they tend to be dry and can taste burnt.

Underdone and you risk stomach aches and safety issues. So to ensure you have perfectly cooked banana bread, I suggest you set your timer for the 45-minute mark and start checking every 5 to 10 minutes.

Once the top is baked and you don’t see any ‘gooey’ batter, start checking with a toothpick or metal cake tester.

When you insert your cake tester or toothpick near the center of the loaf and the tester comes out clean, then the center of the loaf is done and it’s time to take your banana bread out of the oven.

Banana Bread Storage Tips

Storing your homemade chocolate chip banana bread correctly will help it retain flavor and freshness. IMPORTANT: Be sure your loaf is completely cool before storing.

  • To keep your banana bread from drying out, wrap the loaf in plastic wrap, tin foil, or (the best option) is to store in an airtight container. This can also extend the life of your bread. Another quick and easy tip is to store it in the refrigerator to make it last up to a week.
  • Did you know you can also freeze banana bread!? First, make sure your loaf is completely cool. Then wrap it in plastic wrap, add a layer of tin foil, and place in a ziplock bag. For optimal taste, eat within 2 months.

This looks so good and not real hard to make. I like loaf breads but never eat them all. So I slice them and insert 1 or 2 slices in a zip lock and throw in the freezer. Either in the toaster or just left on the counter for 15 or 20 minutes ready to eat

I make banana bread frequently, mostly because I don't eat bananas fast enough. This looks so yummy with the chocolate chips and would make a nice afternoon snack.

Lol. I haven't made in years, but have overripe bananas and guests coming, and was planning to make this week!

Just a quick comment. When testing if the cake is done, the toothpick may not come out clean because of the melted chocolate chips. You're checking for the loaf ("bread") to be done, so look for no gooey yellow. 😉

@RK, TRUE! If you get chocolate, retest in an area looking at the batter. :)
