About two years ago Sweet Frog moved into our neighborhood. If you don’t have a Sweet Frog in your area, (and I must say, I’m very sorry if you don’t) they are these fabulous frozen yogurt shops that have a large number of yogurt flavors along with a HUGE assortment of toppings.
As I’m sure you can imagine, Sweet Frog is a favorite for my children. They are always asking to go there for dessert, but that doesn’t always fit into our budget. I decided that we would make our own ice cream bar at home, so the kids can still have a fun dessert some nights, without breaking the bank. Maggie has decided to call it “Sweet Toad.” We love “Sweet Toad” so much, I wanted to share it with you!
To make your own “Sweet Toad” you will need:
- Containers to store the toppings. I bought a package of 12 mason jars that work great!
- Lots of toppings. The more toppings you have, the more fun the frozen yogurt/ice cream bar will be. We started with 12, but I plan to add more soon.
- Ice cream or frozen yogurt.
- A larger container to store all of the smaller toppings containers.
Purchasing the items above cost about $30. It is a small expense up front, but will pay for itself after just a few visits to “Sweet Toad” instead of Sweet Frog.
Next, fill each container with a different topping. I let me daughter do this part and she loved it!
At the end of the evening, when everyone has had their fill of “Sweet Toad” I pile all of the little containers into 1 big container for easy storage.
Now, whenever we have a movie night or just want to give the kids a special treat, we pull out the Sweet Toad container and all enjoy some ice cream together! Why not try it with your family this week?!
What’s your favorite topping? My kids love the gummies and sprinkles!
