Do you ever have those easy go-to recipes that everyone just LOVES? For over two decades, mine has been this Deep Dish Pizza recipe. It’s sorta one of those ‘secret’ but not so secret family recipes. I actually got it from my great aunt who was also the creator of these old fashion cinnamon rolls that everyone loves! (Make sure you grab that recipe as they are SOOOOO easy and absolutely amazing.)
This deep dish pizza recipe is one of the things I make when I don’t have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen or when I want to wow someone. People tend to think it took WAY more work than what it does because it’s just so yummy!

- PRO TIP: Keep some seasoned and cooked ground beef frozen in 1/2 pound increments so you can grab to use in recipes when you’re on a time crunch!
Back to the Deep Dish Pizza. This isn’t the traditional pizza you’d think of when you hear ‘Deep Dish Pizza’ but more so a spinoff version. As the name suggests, deep dish pizza, also known as Chicago-styled pizza, is also deep in the crust. Traditional deep dish pizza is baked in a round steel pan. Oil is added for giving the outside of the crust a fired touch. The deep-dish pizza was invented at the original location of Pizzeria Uno in Chicago in 1943. So while this easy Deep Dish Pizza has some of those components (the deep crust!), you’ll also quickly notice some major differences.

The Best Homemade Deep Dish Pizza
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion
- 4-6 ounces sour cream
- 1 jar pizza sauce
- shredded cheese (mozzarella, sharp cheddar, or a mix)
- 1 can Pillsbury Grands biscuits (NOT the flaky layers)
- seasonings

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Dice the onion. Brown the ground beef and onion. Season the meat with: onion salt, garlic salt, seasoning salt, and pepper. While I don’t measure, it’s about 1/4 teaspoon of each.
- Once the meat is cooked, add the sour cream and pizza sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- As the meat is simmering, coat a 9×13 cake pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- Open the biscuits and peel each one in 1/2, (thickness way).
- Gently lay the biscuits in the bottom of the greased pan. Do NOT press or flatten.
- Pour meat mixture over the biscuits and spread to evenly coat.
- Top with shredded cheese of choice.
- Sprinkle garlic salt and Italian seasoning over the top.
- Place in oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or till cheese is bubbly and the biscuit crust is fully baked.
- Remove from oven and let stand for 3-5 minutes.
- Cut and serve.
- Enjoy!
