Cutting Edge Meets Performance With The Mia Melon Commuter Jacket

coat-cover

Get ready to be introduced to the last jacket you’ll ever need! My eyes were first caught by how striking and contemporary these coats where. As soon as I put my commuter jacket on however, I quickly fell in love with the overwhelming level of comfort, functionality, and the way this jacket out-performs all of the other coats I own. Mia Melon, who sent me the commuter jacket pictured above, at no cost to facilitate this review, is on the cutting edge of waterproof outerwear apparel, and I’d say, along with keeping me dry, this coat also propels me forward in the fashion world. There’s no doubt about it – I’m a Mia Melon fan!

Mia Melon Commuter Jacket – $ARV 189.00

Our weather has definitely begun the seasonal switch from the sun-kissed days of Summer to the cool days and even cooler nights of Fall. I love the Autumn fashion trends of big sweaters, boots, and hoodies, mostly because I’m always cold and since it’s no longer 95 degrees outside, people stop staring at the fact that I’m toting around a sweatshirt everywhere I go. As much as I hate being cold, If there’s one thing I hate more, it’s being cold and wet! We’ve had a week of non-stop drizzling rain here in West Virginia and it’s been the perfect opportunity for me to show off my new Mia Melon Commuter Jacket! It’s no stretch to tell you that I absolutely fell in love with this jacket! As I hung it up in the closet today I told my hubby, Ben, “This is seriously my most favorite jacket ever in the history of jackets”! Aside from it’s striking indigo color, bold enough to stand out, yet traditional enough to be in style for years to come, the impossibly impressive hue is just the start of what makes this commuter jacket the last jacket you’ll ever need to own!

Length & Fit

coat-collage-2

I’m a petite gal (only standing 5 ft. 1″ on a good day) and most jackets that I’ve owned always manage to overwhelm my small frame. Longer coats tend to make me look even shorter and so I’ve always just lived with shorter length outerwear; it looks better, but certainly doesn’t keep me as warm as I’d like. I ordered the x-small size jacket from Mia Melon and it fit like a glove! I love the way this jacket hugs my curves in a way that is surprisingly flattering (especially from the back)! The sleeves veer from the traditional cut, shaped at the cuff almost like an upside down triangle. Aside from additional protection of wind and rain on my hands, I appreciate how Mia Melon took the traditional sleeve cut and fast-forwarded fashion a few extra years. You’ll notice the reflective bands around the edge of the cuff, truly making this jacket ideal for any city-loving folk who bike, walk, taxi, or bus your way to work. I lived for 8 years in downtown, Minneapolis, Minnesota and how I wish I would have owned this jacket back then! To all my inner-city friends – you won’t be disappointed in a Mia Melon!

The Bells & Whistles

Expect to get lots of compliments in your Mia Melon commuter jacket! This jacket from head to toe is one of the sickest (and I mean that in the most “oh my gosh I’m not nearly cool enough to look this cool” ways) outer garment I’ve ever owned. The quality it outstanding! I’m confident this jacket will last for years with lots of wear. There are several pockets both on the outside (two on the bottom front and one near the shoulder) and two on the inside of the coat. All are very functional and the pockets for your hands are especially warm. You’ll notice there are several “bungees” throughout the jacket. One on the hood (which is also detachable from the coat) and two on the inside of the jacket. These allow you to not only cinch the hood closer to your face on a windy day, but the waste bungees help make for a more fitted look. They can be tightened or loosed to help your jacket fit perfectly over whatever outfit you happen to be wearing that day. The jacket also has a snaps and a zipper making it easy to take the coat off and on, keeping it warm and secure on those blustery days. This jacket makes me look and feel amazing in so many ways!

Keeping Me Warm & Dry

Standing outside in the drizzling rain on a cold September day might not sound like the most comfortable of environments, but in m Mia Melon commuter jacket, I couldn’t tell the difference! It was in the 50’s when I forced my oldest daughter (she takes great pictures! ) out in to the elements. I only had a T-shirt on underneath my jacket and never felt even the slightest breeze. After several choruses from my daughter of “Are we done yet?” we were finally ready to head back inside. Mariyah, damp from the drizzle, asked, “Aren’t you wet?”. I can attest to the fact that though it was raining, no drop of water ever reached the inside of my jacket, much less my clothes. Keeping me ultra dry in the weather is a big plus, but when you add that to the soft comfort of the fleece lining, there’s just no way to lose in the Mia Melon commuter jacket!

Over the years there have been a handful of products that I’ve experienced to be “life-changing”, meaning that they truly are products I will see myself using not only for years to come, but products that will improve the over all quality of my life. That’s a pretty big statement to say about a jacket, but that should tell you just how strongly I feel about this piece of outerwear. Being cold, in all seriousness, used to stop me from doing a lot of things in the colder months of the year. When I get cold, it goes straight to my bones, sometimes, it’s impossible to feel rid of unless I sink myself into a nice hot bath. With my new Mia Melon, I plan on enjoying everything the cold seasons have to offer! Whether it’s biking to work to get in a few extra minutes of exercise, making memories with my family at our local pumpkin patch, or going for a hike in the mountains, I can concentrate on enjoying the moment instead of dreading the cold.
