Hiccups are so annoying! For some people, an episode of hiccups can last for hours or even days!
I seem to get hiccups more during pregnancy. I found an easy cure for the hiccups that’s not only quick and painless, there’s a great chance that you already have all of the supplies you need to make them go away fast!

According to the Mayo Clinic, hiccups are involuntary contractions of the diaphragm — the muscle that separates your chest from your abdomen and plays an important role in breathing.
Each contraction is followed by a sudden closure of your vocal cords, which produces the characteristic “hic” sound.
Hiccups may result from a large meal, alcoholic beverages or sudden excitement. In some cases, hiccups may be a sign of an underlying medical condition.
For most people, a bout of hiccups usually lasts only a few minutes. Rarely, hiccups may persist for months. This can result in malnutrition and exhaustion.
Everybody gets hiccups. Even babies in the womb get hiccups! They are so annoying, but I’m here to tell you about my easy cure for hiccups.
My Always-Works Cure for the Hiccups
Now, you will read this and think I’m nuts. You will! You will laugh and say, this will never work and I’m just trying to see how many people on the internet will fall for it.
But, the next time you get the hiccups, I double dare you to try my method and see for yourself that it works.
I don’t know how and I don’t know why, but it works.
How to Cure Hiccups with a Cup of Water and a Paper Towel
So, what do I do? Here you go:
- Fill a full-size glass with water about 3/4 the way full.
- Put a clean paper towel over the glass.
- Drink at least half of that water through the paper towel. That’s right–drink it with the paper towel on the glass.
- Take the paper towel off and finish drinking the rest of the water.
- Enjoy being hiccup-free.
- For persistent, tough cases, you may need to drink the full glass of water through the paper towel.
That’s it, that’s all and it WORKS! I have been doing this for years now.
Every time someone sees me do it I get this strange look and I have to explain to them why I’m doing it. And then they look at me as if they are thinking, “sure, you’re crazy!”
BUT, I’ve had a lot of people try it now, and although they are skeptical, they’ve become a believers too!
So, try it next time you need an easy cure for the hiccups–and make sure you come back and tell me about the results!

I remember reading this post a couple of years ago. Yesterday I had the hiccups and tried my own tested cures, especially eating a spoon of sugar. Nothing worked. I remembered this post, and tried it. OMG, it DOES work! I have no idea why, but thank you, it's a cure!

I do this every time. I learned this trick from my grandma and was just looking for the reason behind why this works. I just got a case tonight where I had to do this. My 3 year old was watching and I didn't realize I must do this often but by the time I was done he was all yay mommy you feel better 🤣
