Creamy Beef And Shells Pasta Recipe

Ground Beef

We farm so we have our own beef.  While this is a blessing, I tend to get stuck in a dinner rut where I make the same meals over and over again.  Since I was tired of the typical ground beef recipes I was making, I started purchasing other meats.  Which is silly since the freezer is full of beef.  In our home, our typical ground beef recipes include: spaghetti, meatloaf, and burgers.  I decided to make a change and try some new flavors so we could continue eating our own meat.  Enter: this Creamy Beef And Shells Pasta Recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 12 ounces shell pasta (or whatever shape you prefer)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • medium red or sweet yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 3 cups beef stock
  • 1 can (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • salt, pepper, onion salt, garlic salt, season salt – to taste
  • 8 ounces shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese

  • medium red or sweet yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

  • 3 cups beef stock

Instructions

  • In a large pot, boil salted water and cook pasta according to package instructions. Drain (but do not rinse.)
  • In a fry pan, cook ground beef and season with onion salt, garlic salt, seasoning salt, and pepper. (I use about 1 teaspoon of each.) When done, set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Add onion and garlic. Cook, while stirring frequently, for about 2-3 minutes. Add Italian seasoning.
  • Whisk in flour and then gradually add beef stock and tomato sauce.
  • Continue whisking as you bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer, stirring occasionally until reduced and slightly thickened. (About 7-8 minutes.)
  • Stir in pasta, ground beef, and heavy cream. Heat for 3-4 minutes, until hot throughout, stirring often.
  • Stir in shredded cheese until melted, about 2 additional minutes.
  • Serve immediately.

A Few Steps In Action

I’m a visual learner.  So I like to see some steps in action when I’m making something new.  For those of you who are like me, here are a few of the steps.

Adding Olive Oil, Onion, And Garlic To Skillet

Cook for about 2-3 minutes.

Whisking

This step takes a bit as you need to whisk the beef stock, tomato sauce, flour, onion, and garlic.  The sauce is very liquid-like at first but reduces a bit and thickens in the process.

Finishing Up

Once the sauce has thickened, you add all the ingredients back to the pot.  Heat thoroughly and serve!
