Some of you may remember that a little over a year ago we had big plans to move. We gave away a ton of stuff because of it. We planned to move quite a distance, so taking large non-necessity items was not an option. That meant that we got rid of a lot of the kids larger play toys. Then we didn’t move…and it really doesn’t look like we’ll be moving anywhere else anytime soon. My little kids had been missing having a playhouse, so I was delighted when Simplay3 sent our family their Garden View Cottage to review.
I’ve called it a “playhouse” because that’s what my kids call it, but really this house is officially called the Simplay3 Garden View Cottage.
Assembling the Simplay3 Garden View Cottage
I have not seen my 3-year-old THIS excited about a toy in quite a while. He was bouncing all over our house while my husband assembled it. My husband and I have assembled a LOT of toys over the years, between blog items and personal items. Some assembly is easier than others, that’s for sure!
We’ve assembled a lot of molded plastic products (at least 30 at this point I’d say) and to be quite honest with you, this was one of the easiest ones we’ve assembled. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Even more impressive to my husband was that he didn’t need to drill his own pilot holes like he typically had to with other brands. Using a power drill, I’d say he had it assembled in less than 20 minutes.
You would need to disassemble it (at least partially) to fit it through a doorway, so make sure you assemble it wherever you plan to keep it.
To summarize, if you’re looking for a playhouse that’s easy to assemble, as the name would have you to believe, the Simplay3 Garden View Cottage assembly is simple!
Features of the Simplay3 Garden View Cottage
Although it doesn’t take up a lot of floor space, the Simplay3 Garden View Cottage is quite spacious inside. I have literally seen all FIVE of my kids in there playing together.
This cottage features a kitchenette with pretend oven, stovetop, and cupboard storage. There are 4 little corner seats in the house which are great for sitting…or climbing if you’re my energetic and adventurous 14-month-old. It also has a windowsill figure 8 racetrack for toy cars.
It does not come with any accessories, so you’ll need to have your own kitchen play toys and cars. I don’t know about you, but these are items we already have plenty of. I’d rather not have a price increase for those little accessories and just use the ones we already own. It also cuts down on additional toys that aren’t necessary.
The working door is arguably the favorite part of this house for my youngest. The older kids exit through the door AND windows!
Indoor or Outdoor?
It’s perfect for both. With fall just around the corner and the long winter ahead, we decided to assemble our new Garden View Cottage inside. It would make a great outdoor toy as well though. It is heavy enough that it’s not likely to blow away in a storm (unless we’re talking severe weather) but still light enough that you can move it easily to mow around and in it.
What the Kids Thought of the Simplay3 Garden View Cottage
They were SO eager to jump in and play! We finished constructing it on a Friday afternoon and they played for hours until we had them break for our weekly family night. They went right back to playing the next morning when they woke up, instead of turning on cartoons.
Any time I look at the Simplay3 playhouse it’s filled with books, stuffed animals, and other toys…plus generally some kids. I typically can not see the floor because they have so many items inside the house!
All of the kids have enjoyed playing with it (ages 14 months through 9 years old) but my 14-month-old, 3-year-old, and 5-year-old have had the most fun with it. The could play in it for hours, which has been great for me! It gives me the freedom to get other things done that I need to accomplish, plus I love to see them playing together so happily.
My toddler has SO much fun going in and out the door and the other children really enjoy role-playing with the cottage.
The holidays are just around the corner. If you’re in the market for a new playhouse for your kids, put this one at the top of your list! You can purchase this cottage on Amazon and also at the Simplay3 website.
