A couple years ago at a local camp, we were introduced to a fun backyard group game that was affectionately being called ‘9 square’.  It was THE most popular game at camp.  There was always a line of players waiting for someone to miss so they could be rotated in.  But the best parts about this game is that:

#1:  Even standing in line watching and waiting for your turn is FUN!
#2:  The wait time is never very long.
#3:  Kids and adults of all ages enjoy it!

So today, I’m thrilled to share that you can own your very own game as Castlesquares has made it easy!

Seriously, if you are on the hunt for ONE game that is a must have for parties, events, and family fun; Castlesquares is it!  My 4 year old niece all the way up to my 81 year old grandma have played this game with us and had a blast!  As a matter of fact, my grandma thought it was awesome and really enjoyed being able to get up and play with everyone.

Set Up:

When I was telling a friend that I had Castlesquares 9 Square coming for an upcoming First Friday Homeschool Teen Event, she laughed.  I was confused but then she said ‘good luck with set up’.  That’s when I was able to tell her that it literally takes just 3 to 5 MINUTES to set up!  She was in awe!  But it truly is that simple!  The ingenious design of Castlesquares = no fuss, easy assembly and disassembly.   Our very first assembly took about 10 minutes.  But by the second time, we’d already cut that time in half!

First, remove all pieces from storage bag.

How To Play 9 Square Castlesquares

Nine Square is a fun game for all age groups and skill levels. It’s like a cross between volleyball and foursquare, but what exactly is the game, and how do you play?  Well, the goal of this game is two-fold.  First, you never want to let the ball hit the ground inside your square.  So when it comes your way, pop it back up and over to someone else.  Secondly, your final goal of this game is to make your way through the rotation to the “#9” square which is considered the King/Queen position. Once there, players will try to stay there as long as possible.

Basic Play

The basic play of 9 Square Castlesquares is simple. The player in the center square or King/Queen position will serve the ball into another square like in volleyball. Players will then bounce the ball out of their own square and into one of the other squares without letting it drop.

Getting Out

If a player lets the ball hit the ground after it is passed into his or her square or a player bounces it outside all 9 squares, they are out and will move to the end of the overflow line or into the “#1” square.

When a person moves to the end of the rotation, players behind him or her will follow the rotation in the provided graphic to fill the empty spot.

The person who is now in the King/Queen position will take the ball and give service to restart the game.

For the best experience playing 9 square, adjust the height of your CastleBall 9 square set so that the squares are about 2 feet above the head of your average player.  But the beauty is that you can choose a different setting if you prefer.

This looks like a fun game and a great way to spend some quality time with my family. I love that it would get us outside away from the online world.
