This Busting Weighted Blanket Myths With TruHugs is a sponsored posts. But as always, all opinions are my own.
Have you been introduced to the wonderful world of weighted blankets yet? Well, today, we’re working on busting weighted blanket myths and giving you the facts! Weighted blankets are designed to work in a way that’s similar to an OT technique called deep touch pressure therapy. This therapy helps reduce anxiety as well as address other issues. I first learned about this topic when doing foster care for an alcohol and drug exposed infant. But in essence, the thought is that pressure on the body can increase the release of serotonin in the brain. This neurotransmitter is sometimes called the “happy” chemical because it creates a sense of calm and well-being. So the theory behind weighted blankets is they can help the body release serotonin. Which, in turn, provides huge benefits to the user.
Busting Weighted Blanket Myths
So now that you know how weighted blankets are supposed to work. We’re going to start busting myths. Because when I’m considering investing in a product, I want to know the truth. And I’m sure you do too!
Myth #1: I should purchase a blanket that is 10% of my body weight.
Not necessarily. How heavy or light your weighted blanket is shouldn’t depend on your body weight alone because pressure receptors are only skin deep. Be sure to pick a weight depending on how sensitive to pressure you are. As that is directly associated with who you are as a person. So its important to take into consideration.
Myth #2: Organic weighted blankets are best.
Not always! Something you may not have realized is that many of the weighted blankets marketed as organic have actually been made through slave labor. Which is probably not what you were looking for.
Myth #3: All weighted blankets are created equal.
False. Components can be different. Quality can be different. Engineering can be different. And a whole host of other things as well. If you’ve given weighted blankets a try in the past and have been disappointed, it could very well be because you experienced a placebo. A cheap knock-off that was foreign made.
So as you can see. All weighted blankets are definitely not created equal. Which is what led me to TruHugs.

A weighted blanket feels like a big comforting hug while you’re resting or sleeping. The pressure is a feedback the body craves for regulation. (SIDE BONUS: It’s also been known to help prevent your spouse from stealing the blankets.)
TruHugs SOLO: Organic Hemp Cotton Weighted Blanket
I chose the SOLO 15 as I’m fairly sensitive to pressure. This particular blanket is considered TruHugs lighter option. While not always, this particular blanket is usually chosen by people more sensitive to pressure. They also tend to be Type A, younger, lighter skinned, non-smokers, and female. (So the description actually fits me to a T.)
The SOLO is engineered to produce a warmth that settles in more quickly and stays constant throughout the night. Its surface fabric gradually produces more insulation the more you use it. This provides supplementing warmth to individual adults who don’t have the body heat of a partner to help keep them warm.
My Experience With The SOLO
I have found the SOLO blanket to be a great addition in my life. While I have dealt with some insomnia from time to time, I’ve found that when I use the SOLO, I am able to fall asleep much easier. The solid, steady weight that it offers is definitely comforting and relaxing. I’ve also noticed that I stay asleep longer as well. Many nights, I have woken up at 1 am and lay in bed, unable to fall back asleep until after 5. This never happens on nights when I use the comforting weight of the SOLO. So based off my overall experience, I’d highly recommend giving the SOLO weighted blanket a try.
More About TruHugs Weighted Blankets
With a focus on increasing quality of living around the world, TruHugs seeks to deliver a meaningful weighted blanket experience with dedicated research, hard work, and due diligence.
So I was also excited to see that TruHugs features the highest quality weighted blankets based on lab tests where they’ve compared their blanket with the other leading brands. Unlike every single weighted blanket you may have looked at, TruHugs weighted blankets are made from scratch. Which means they have NOT been constructed from wholesale components.
The TruHugs team has recently developed a completely new sustainable weighted blanket in which they have done complete due diligence on. Engineered completely from its fibers for improved durability, pressure distribution, and thermal regulation.
Another great feature is their beads do not shift like other leaders in the market. So as you move your blanket, you won’t be fighting a shifting tide of beads. They are the first weighted blanket company in the world to really sell engineered bedding, from a research standpoint.
