This Burley Kazoo Trailercycle Review is sponsored but, as always, all opinions are my own.
Our family LOVES going on family bike rides and it’s something we look forward to doing every single summer. It’s the sunshine after the rain; or in our case: long Minnesota winter.
Hitting The Trails
While we actually live out in the country on our family dairy farm, my parents live near town and the local paved trail is adjacent to their backyard. So we like to head on over and jump on the trail. Some Sundays, we have had a train of up to 20 of us going! (Before social distancing of course.) We get lots of stares and compliments on getting out and being active as a family. But there is a problem. With so many young bikers, we can’t go very far as their little legs just can’t keep up.
Last summer, we were able to solve that problem through the use of our Burley D’Light X Bike Trailer for our youngest, Lucy, and the Piccolo Trailercycle for our second youngest, Sam. But this year, Lucy has decided that she wants to be pedaling and Sam isn’t quite ready to go 5-10+ miles on the bike. So we compromised.
We’re retiring our bike trailer for now and Lucy is getting a new ride to hook up behind her dad’s Priority Continuum Onyx!
Burley Kazoo Trailercycle Review
Similar to the Piccolo, the Kazoo is a tagalong style bike that allows preschoolers through elementary aged kids to bike along behind a parent while also pedaling as desired. Our kids love being able to be in the midst of the group yet able to take a break as needed.
The Kazoo is seriously a perfect way for a child to transition from training wheels to big kid biking as it helps them practice balance as they zip along safely behind an adult.
Burley Kazoo Trailercycle Assembly-
Since one of the main things I like to hear about before I purchase a product is ‘how hard is assembly’, I wanted to share a little about the process with the Burly Kazoo. Everything came packaged nicely in the box and arrived safely to our doorstep.
We always like to lay all the pieces out and double check instructions before beginning so we know all pieces are accounted for. From unboxing until ready-to-ride, was about 30 minutes. I will note that it can definitely be done faster too but we were interrupted several times. But overall, the entire process was simple with their easy-to-follow directions.
One of my favorite features of Burley’s Trailercycles is the fact that they attach to the included Burley rack. The rack is securely connected to the adult bike so the Kazoo can be attached and detached in just seconds with Burley’s patented aluminum ball-bearing guided hitch; making it easy to bike with your child or alone.
The high arc on Burley’s Trailercycle frame means you never have to worry about the tagalong rubbing your tire. Talk about a brilliant design!
Why We Chose Burley
The Fit-
We actually had a different brand tagalong bike in the past but it just never fit right. The tire would rub on the connection bar. Burley makes sure that won’t be an issue as they have their connection bar designed with a wide arc to accommodate almost any lead bike style.
Superior Handling-
I’m a small person. At just 5’2″ and under 120#, it doesn’t take much to throw me off balance. So having an attachment I can handle is extremely important. I love the stability I have with our Piccolo and Kazoo Trailercycles.
Easy To Use Hitch-
The Kazoo securely mounts to an adult bike by way of the included Burley rear rack. But the best part is that it literally takes seconds to unhitch the trailercycle from the bike. So if my husband and I want to take a date-night bike ride together, we can leave the tagalongs behind and head out alone.
Rear Bike Features-
Kids love how this tagalong bike looks and feels just like a ‘typical’ bike. It has:
- adjustable seat
- easy to grip handlebars
- working pedals
- a back wheel
- geared for children ages 4-10
It’s Safe
My number one reason for choosing the Burley Kazoo is because it’s designed with safety in mind. Every parents wants to ensure their child is as safe as possible and Burley knows this. So they design all their products, including the Kazoo, from high quality components to ensure sturdiness as well as ease of use. The Kazoo even features a safety flag which helps make sure we are easy to see when out and about; something that is extremely important when crossing roads.
So tell me, does your family head out on bike rides together? It's a great way to get some fresh air, even when having to social distance!

My youngest is almost 3 and rides in a bike trailer, but would love the tag along bike!! She isn't ready to keep up with her big sisters yet so this would be a great solution!

It is great that your family get to go out biking with all of your kids. Parts of our rail trails that run along the river can be seen from a car. I have saw a lot of familys with bikes but nothing like this.
