Have you ever gotten a new vacuum cleaner and it worked amazingly for that first day, week, or month, but then, well, it wasn’t long before that vacuum cleaner wasn’t sucking up the dirt very well and you were left wishing you had gotten something else? Yeah, me too. That’s why I decided that when I reviewed the Bissell ICONpet Cordless Vacuum, I was going to wait a solid 6 months to deliver my review. Here we are, 6 months later, and I’m ready to give you a thorough, honest review of this vacuum cleaner.

My Review of the Bissell ICONpet Cordless Vacuum
Using on Various Types of Flooring
Let me start with why I wanted this vacuum. You see, about a year ago we moved into a rental home when my husband took a job 3.5 hours away from our hometown. This home features linoleum and carpet and I wanted something that could easily vacuum both without much of a hassle.
For a home with multiple types of flooring, I’ve gotta say, this vacuum cleaner has been great! You can go from carpet to hard flooring and back and forth without batting an eye. You don’t even have to change any settings or attachments (although you can if desired, more on that later).
Cordless
I also wanted a vacuum that my children could easily use. I often have them vacuum as part of their chores but it’s hard for the younger kids to navigate a cord. I was hopeful that a cordless vacuum would make this chore easier for my kids.
Not having a cord to deal with has been great, not only for my kids but for me too! It makes vacuuming so quick and easy. I can zip anywhere with the vacuum. I even take it outside to clean our van quickly and easily.
I LOVE having a vacuum without a cord. It definitely has made cleaning quicker and easier. I can’t imagine going back to not having a cordless vacuum. I still have my corded vacuum “just in case” but to be honest, if I have pulled it out at all during the past 6 months, it was maybe one time. I’m not even sure that I’ve done that though. It’s just so much easier to not have to deal with a cord!
Battery Life
I would say that the battery life on this vacuum is about what I would expect from a cordless vacuum. This vacuum does allow you to adjust the suction to 3 different levels (which means 3 different levels of power used). When I use the vacuum it lasts much longer for me because I do adjust it when I’m on the hard floor surfaces as opposed to the carpet where it needs to be on full power. When my younger kids are using it, they don’t really remember to adjust for this feature yet. We typically can not vacuum the full 1500 square foot home we live in, so we do it in sections throughout the day and week.
Brush Roll
This vacuum was designed with pets in mind. Since we are renting, a friend is fostering our dogs for us, so we do not currently have any dogs in our home. (Hopefully, we will be reunited soon though!) We do however have 3 females in our home with long hair. It felt like the brush roll on our other vacuum was constantly getting clogged and I had to cut things off. I am happy to report that I have not had to get my scissors out once yet for this vacuum! I did just check it and there are some hairs wrapped around it, but not very many, and it hasn’t affected the functionality of the brush or suction.
Attachments
This vacuum comes with three total attachments. The first is the basic, standard attachment for vacuuming your floors. It can be used on any type of flooring. Another attachment has 2 tips (the brush tip slides down over the hard, corner piece when desired). You definitely need this piece to get the corners really good. It lights up as well to make the job even easier. The last attachment is great for vacuuming things like vehicles, couches, stairs, ect.
The attachments are all very sturdy, well made, and don’t appear likely to break. They are also very quick and easy to attach and detach.
Adjustable Stick Length
Another nice feature is that you can change the length of the stick by taking off the main section, essentially turning it into a hand vac. This is helpful for smaller jobs like vacuuming furniture.
Negatives
I do not have many negative things to say about this vacuum, to be honest, but I will say the biggest drawback with this vacuum is that, because of the top-heaviness of the battery pack, this vacuum can not stand on its own. That was a big learning curve with my kids. They would sit it up and think they could walk away. It would then come crashing to the floor. I WILL say though, it is clearly very well made because although my kids let it fall to the floor (sometimes even hard floors) at least 20 different times already, it just keeps on going.
You can lean it against a corner wall and it will stay up that way. We do that fairly often here if we aren’t finished vacuuming but just need to move an item out of the way. Otherwise, if the job is done, its inability to stand on its own is a good reminder for my kids to put it away and plug it in to start recharging.
Overall Thoughts on the Bissell ICONpet Cordless Vacuum
As I said at the beginning of this post, we have been using this vacuum for a solid 6 months. We use it on carpet and linoleum. I have also used it on wood floors, tile, and to vacuum my van. It is exactly what I wanted and works exactly the way I thought it would (minus the part about not being able to stand on its own).
My kids (5 years old and up) are able to vacuum with it. It does great on multiple types of surfaces. I love that it lights up, making it easier to spot any dirt on the floor. I have not noticed any loss of suction since we first started using it. I can confidently recommend it to you.

I am in the market for a cordless vacuum, this may be the one. Doesn't matter that it can't stand alone, leaning it in the closet is good for me. Gonna check it out, see the price.
