Best Books for Kids by Age: Scholastic Picks From Preschool to Teens

This ‘best books for kids’ blog post contains Amazon affiliate links.

Pretty much everyone knows of the Scholastic brand. As a homeschooling mom with kids spanning different ages, I appreciate how they have something for everyone. I also love how this brand emphasizes that children’s interests and reading abilities don’t always line up perfectly with their chronological age or grade. And that’s okay! Scholastic is great about finding ways to allow kids to choose books that genuinely interest them at any level. So today, I’m sharing a variety of books that would be great picks for different ages.

How to Choose the Right Book for Your Child

Choosing the right book for your child isn’t always simple. Kids develop their reading skills at different rates, and their interests can vary even more. (Every single one of our kids have been different!) I’ve found that one of the best ways to encourage a love of reading is to let kids have a say in what they read. Watch what topics, characters, hobbies, and types of stories naturally grab their attention. Then grab some books with those themes and let your child lead.

Why We Keep Coming Back to Scholastic Books

Scholastic is one of those names that has been part of childhood for generations. And there’s a reason we keep coming back to their books. I remember the excitement of Scholastic Book Fairs and book orders as a kid. And even though my kids don’t get to experience those exact things, they can still fall in love with the wonderful variety of books Scholastic offers. With six kids, I’ve also learned that no two readers are exactly alike. So having a wide selection is a HUGE plus in our house. We’ve even created our own in-home library! But at the end of the day, anything that gets my kids excited to pick up a book instead of a screen is a win in my book. And Scholastic continues to deliver time and time again!
