This ‘Benefits Of Sleep For Kids + Storkcraft Marco Island Trundle Captain’s Bed Review’ is sponsored by Storkcraft. As always, all opinions are my own.
A topic that many people tend to put little significance on in life is sleep. It’s not that we do it on purpose. More so because everyone just leads such busy lives that sleep seams unimportant. But did you realize that sleep is an essential part of everyone’s routine and is an indispensable part of a healthy lifestyle? Every living thing needs sleep to survive! Studies have shown that kids who regularly get an adequate amount of sleep have improved attention, behavior, learning, memory, and overall mental and physical health. Sounds pretty important, right!?
Benefits Of Sleep For Kids
As an adult, if we don’t get adequate sleep, the next day is rough! Earlier this year I had a garage sale. I kid you not, it took me about 2 weeks to recover! After spending a few long days marking things, setting up, and preparing; I then spent 3 (10+ hour) days in a row working it! While I could understand and knew the reason I was hurting, many children don’t or can’t vocalize this.
Take Charge
With the new school year approaching, it’s extremely important that we, as the adults, take charge of our kids sleep. Instilling good sleep habits from little on is important. However, don’t be discouraged if your child isn’t a good sleeper yet. It’s never too late to begin a new routine; putting importance on quality sleep.
Adequate Sleep Is Important
The average child leads a busy life. There’s schooling, taking care of pets, chores, hanging with friends, participating in sports practice, doing homework, and a host of other activities. By the end of the day, the body needs a break! Sleep allows our bodies to rest up and be prepared to tackle the next day.
Sleep Is Important For Kids Because It Helps With:
- Attention Span
- Behavior
- Learning Capabilities
- Memory Retention
- Mental Health
- Physical Health
- Mood
- Healthier Diet Cravings
- Ability To Grow
- Boosting Immune System
- Healthy Body Weight
- Overall Productivity
- And More!
Most kids between the ages of 5 and 12 get 9.5 hours or less of sleep per night. But many experts will agree that most children actually need 10 or 11 hours each night. Of course, keep in mind, sleep is an individual thing and some kids will need more than others. (Be sure to check out this 10 ways to get your toddler to sleep better post for some sleeping tips!)
Best Ways To Catch The Zzzzzz’s Your Family Needs!
- Go to sleep at the same time each night. This will help your body find a rythm.
- Follow a calming bedtime routine. It could be a warm bath, short book, or stretches.
- Limit caffeine intake starting in the early evening. This includes sodas, iced teas, chocolate, etc.
- Have a “NO tv in the bedrooms” rule. Research has shown us that kids who have one in their room will sleep less. If you have a television elsewhere in the home, make sure it’s turned off at least two hours before bedtime. ***This rule actually applies to all screens. Keep the phones out of the bedrooms too!
- Avoid scary movies and television shows, (but especially close to bedtime). They create fears (in people of all ages!) and prevent the restful, calm sleep your body needs each night.
- Use the bed for sleeping and the bedtime routine only. This will train your body to know that bed = sleep. (This includes avoiding playing games, doing homework, and other activities on the bed. Do those activities on the floor.)
- Avoid exercising right before bedtime. Instead, schedule your workout and adventurous play for kids earlier in the day.
- Make sure everyone in the family has an adequate, high quality bed and mattress. It’s where we should be spending almost 50% of our time!
Storkcraft Marco Island Trundle Captain’s Bed Review
We recently added on to our home. After our renovation last year, we were down to a two bedroom, two bathroom house. (My husband and I had sacrificed our master bedroom to turn it into a walk in butler pantry. We did this last year, as we knew is would be a short term sacrifice till we added on.) So now, we have five bedrooms and three baths with plenty of space for everyone. That also now includes a bedroom for our youngest daughter. Previously, she chose to usually crawl into our bed. But with her new bedroom, she had a renewed desire to sleep in her room so she needed a bed. After looking around, we decided the Storkcraft Marco Island Twin Captain’s Bed with Trundle and Drawers.
High Quality Bed
This bed came in four boxes and we could tell immediately upon unboxing that it is high quality. Assembly was pretty quick as the directions were easy to follow. Within less than an hour, my husband had this bed completely unboxed and assembled.
Made from high-quality solid hardwood and composites, this Broyhill Kids Marco Island Twin Captain’s Bed with Trundle Bed and Drawers is sturdy and built for years of enjoyment. The beautiful details on the headboard and footboard just add to the timeless style.
One of the things that drew us to the Maro Island Captain Bed With Trundle was the simple fact that it featured a gorgeous trundle PLUS storage. Now, when Lucy wants a sibling to ‘sleep over’ in her room, there’s a bed for them! If her cousin, who is one of her best friends wants to visit, she’ll be able to sleep nice and close. A trundle is a huge asset to have available. But I love the fact that we didn’t have to sacrifice storage to get it. There are three functional drawers below the trundle!
The trundle slides in and out quite easily on our vinyl planking floors. If you have a thicker pile carpet, you will find it to be a little trickier but still doable. Overall, the Marco Island Captain’s Bed is an awesome choice for kids, including teens. The features are appealing to all ages and it’s a very well made bed.
Bedtime with Lucy is completely different now. She’s excited to head to her room, snuggle in bed with me while I read a story, and then cuddle up to sleep. More often than not, she stays in her bed the whole night through now too! Storkcraft has helped make this transition seamless.
Also, I want to note that while we went with white, this bed is currently available in three color options: espresso, gray, and white.
Tell me, what benefits of sleep for kids have you recognized in your own children when they are getting adequate sleep?
