Backyard Adventures Custom-Designed Playground Review

As a mom of seven, putting in a playground at our new house in the country was at the top of my want list for our backyard. I’m always on the lookout for ways to make our home a haven of fun and laughter with great backyard activities, so a playground was a no-brainer.

Today, I want to share with you our recent adventure of putting in a custom backyard playground from Backyard Adventures. Trust me, it has been a game-changer for us!

Ability to Add-On

Because these units are basically modular, there is the potential to add onto them and make them larger in the future as children get older and the budget allows.

I spoke with the installer about my desire to do so in a few years so he was able to position our playground in a way that makes that possible, even with our current trees and landscaping.

My Personal Backyard Adventures Custom Playground Review

When it was time to design our backyard playground, I spoke to each of my kids individually to find out their #1 playground request.

To be quite honest, I was surprised by the things some of my kids wanted. Zellene specifically asked for monkey bars and Maggie really wanted a tire swing. I didn’t realize those were things they liked that much.

Jacob wanted a rope ladder, Aram wanted a regular swing, and Gideon wanted a clubhouse. Killian and Matthias didn’t have much to say, so I decided on a baby swing for Matthias and a kitchen set for Killian. (Spoiler alert, I chose well!)

I was really glad I took the time to ask them what they wanted because, to be honest, had I designed the swingset without their input, it would have turned out looking a lot different than it did.

Assembly/Set Up

We were lucky enough to have Bear Playgrounds assemble the playground for us. I would estimate that it took them between 12-14 hours total with two men working on it.

The team assembling did a phenomenal job and I’m very pleased with the work. They are based out of the Pittsburg, PA area, so if you are local, make sure you check them out!

Playtime

My kids have played on this playground so many hours already and we’ve only had it for about two weeks. It’s at a spot in our yard that gets some evening shade which has been great when Orin and I want to go out there with them in the evening.

I think the most surprising thing to me has been just how much Killian LOVES the built-in kitchen set in the playhouse. He has spent so much time out there playing there. My older kids really love all of the other great features as well.

We ended up with 1 infant swing, 1 regular swing, 1 tire swing, and 2 two-person swings. I almost always see at least one child on a swing of some kind, even Matthias loves to go out and swing.

Quality

I’m very impressed with the quality of the wood used in this playground from Backyard Adventures, along with the accessories (swings, kitchen set, bar on the monkey bars, fireman pole, ect.).

Everything is built to last! My husband and I have climbed on the structure, and we have been swinging on the swings with our kids without any issues.

Overall Thoughts

Designing and installing a custom backyard playground from Backyard Adventures has been a such a great experience for our family! The benefits of having a playground right outside our door are beyond measure.

It fosters active play, social interaction, and imaginative adventures. It nurtures our children’s physical, emotional, and social development while providing them with a safe haven of fun and laughter.
