I wanted to share a quick update on my little girl for those who have been asking! As you probably remember, we took her to the ER on the 1st and found our her appendix had ruptured. You can read more about it here.
So how is she? Well, she is STILL in the hospital. Let me back up and catch you up.
This past Sunday (the 6th) my mom drove in to stay with our middle 3 children so I traveled with baby Aram and my sister-in-law to Morgantown to see Maggie. The plan was to spend the night and come home Monday evening. Since Maggie had already been in the hospital since the 1st, I figured she’d be coming home by Wednesday.
On Sunday and Monday, my sister-in-law and mother-in-law and I traded off back and forth so that Aram could stay out of the hospital and away from the germs. There was a lot of traveling back and forth between the hospital and hotel, but we managed!
Maggie seemed really excited to see me on Sunday and Monday and since it seemed to help her morale so much, I decided to stay one more night.
I woke up on Tuesday morning to a phone call from my husband that Maggie was doing worse. Despite the fact that she had been on antibiotics for a solid week her white blood cell count had skyrocketed over the past 24 hours. It was clear that something more needed to be done. They ordered another CT scan and discovered that there was another large abscess in her abdomen. They said it was likely that one that had already been there before had grown OR that a few had basically merged together.
Tuesday Maggie was sedated and they inserted a special needle into the big abscess to drain it. Then they also left a drain in there to help drain the rest of the abscesses. I didn’t want to have to try to travel back and forth between the hotel that day, so I just brought Aram to the hospital with me. It wasn’t ideal but it’s what needed to be done, and I’m praying he doesn’t catch anything from it!
Maggie was SO happy to see her baby brother. Seeing him brought a lot of smiles to her face!
Draining the abscess helped SO much! I noticed a change in Maggie the following day and she has finally, steadily been improving! Because of the procedure, I ended up staying Tuesday night too and then drove back home on Wednesday.
It has been so tough being away from my girl but my husband has been with her 24/7. My mother-in-law has stayed with them too so even when Orin needs to leave to grab food or something, Maggie always has someone with her. I’m so grateful for that!
We Facetime a few times a day and she looks and sounds so much better!
She hasn’t been discharged yet because they want her to have 10 full days of IV antibiotics but we are looking at a discharge day of Monday! I CAN’T WAIT TO HAVE MAGGIE AND MY HUSBAND HOME!!!!!
This has been the longest 2 weeks of my life!
