An App That Helps Children Speak – Speech Blubs Review

Do you have a child who struggles with speech issues?  Even though we homeschool, two of our boys required speech therapy for a short time. 

They struggled with pronouncing specific sounds when combined with words.  Thankfully, both were mild and only needed speech for a short time each to overcome. 

But did you realize there are also special apps available to help too?  In this Speech Blubs review, I’m excited to introduce you to an app that helps children speak better!

First, How To Tell If Your Child Could Benefit From Speech Therapy

As a rule of thumb, a caregiver or parent should be able to understand 75% of what a child says.  By age 5, a child should be able to say most speech sounds.  Children who don’t speak much or at all, may possibly have a language delay.  So it’s a good idea to have your child evaluated if they are hard to understand or aren’t speaking much.

What Causes A Speech Delay?

Developmental speech and language disorders are a common reason for speech and language issues in kids.  These learning disorders can be caused by the brain working differently.  If your child is speech/language delayed, their hearing should be tested first.  Extreme environmental deprivation can also be a cause for speech delay.

But How Old Should My Child Be When They Start Speaking?

Most, but of course not all, toddlers can say about 20 words by 18 months of age.   By the time they turn two, that number should reach upwards of 50 words.  By age 2, kids are starting to combine two words to make simple sentences, such as “baby crying” or “Daddy big.”

So whether you have concerns about your child’s speech or not, it’s always a good idea to be proactive.  And that’s where Speech Blubs comes in.

Lucy especially enjoys that Speech Blubs features so many different topics.   Animals, stars, planets, dinosaurs, home, clothes, and more.  Something for every child’s interests and plenty to learn about!  So not only is she practicing speech, she’s learning about a variety of topics too!

She is also loving participating in all the different activities.  Trying to pronounce and copy sounds and words and snapping face filter photos has been a blast. 

From games and activities to practicing sounds and more, Speech Blubs has been an awesome addition to her practice and education.  Because if I’m going to be completely honest, we’ve tried other apps before and she’s lost interest quite quickly.  With Speech Blubs, she’s still going strong with her love and engaging play.

Another feature she loves is the songs!  This girl loves music so she is especially drawn to the songs.  Throughout her daily Speech Blubs time, I’ll find her singing along and giggling with joy.

Each day we’ve been sitting down together to explore the Speech Blubs app.  And I am super impressed with each new discovery we make.  It’s truly a wonderful app that has been great at teaching Lucy fun facts, improves her speech, and so much more.  I highly suggest you consider checking it out!
