A “Disguised” Feast – The Best April Fools Food Ideas

At my previous workplace we were always looking for fun and exciting ways to boost morale, have fun at work and just feel “ young at heart”. So naturally, April Fools Day is a huge deal for us!

We had everything from silly string wars, small harmless “items taped to the desk” pranks, and even some larger items wrapped in plastic wrap!  We’ve had our share of fun and seen some awesome jokes played on each other.

Last year, on April 1st, we wanted to keep with tradition, so we hosted an April Fools “Disguised” Luncheon, showing off the best food ideas.  The only stipulations were that it had to be edible and had to look like one type of food, but be something completely different.

Take a look at some of our creations.  Pinterest provides soooo many options for the best April Fools food ideas! Scroll down for Ideas & Ingredients!

My co-workers sure got creative.  Here are just a few ideas that they chose to create:

My Favorite Creations

#10 “Kool-Aid”–this was simply jell-o in a plastic cup with a straw.  The funniness happened here when someone picked one up and tried to take a drink!  They got a good amount of air!

April Fools Luncheon food ideas - showing Kool-Aid "drinks" that are really Jello. In the far back right corner is "kitty litter cake". In the back left corner you can see Spaghetti and Meatballs cupcakes. There is also a box of Whoppers which is filled with chocolate covered cheese balls.

#2 “Whoppers”– this  was probably the meanest joke of the day.  You opened the whopper container and saw round chocolates, so you thought you were safe….until you bit into one!  They were chocolate covered cheese balls!  AHHHH!!

#14 & #1 “Spaghetti & Meatballs”–two different people had similar ideas.  One made cupcakes and one made a cake that looked JUST like spaghetti & meatballs!

The catch…it was simply cake with icing and chocolate fondant pieces to give it the resemblance of meatballs.  Make sure you have the right icing tip for this one!  So cute!

You can see the spaghetti cupcakes in the photo above and the spaghetti cake in the photo below.

April Fools Luncheon food ideas, including a "spaghetti and meatballs cake" and hot dogs that are really peanut butter and jelly inside a hot dog bun."

#4 “Hot Dogs” – These were hot dog buns filled with a long glob of peanut butter with jelly added to look like ketchup.

#3 “Chocolate Cake w/Pink Icing”–this was an award-winning piece. (It’s shown in the image below.) It looks exactly like a beautifully decorated cake, but it all reality, it was a round meatloaf with pink mashed potato “icing” and ketchup writing.  It was yummy, but in a very weird way!

a table with numerous April Fools Day foods including a cake that is actually made of meatloaf and hot dogs that are actually made with peanut butter and jelly.

#5 “Chicken Pot Pie”–you guessed it, not what it seems. (It’s featured in the image below.) This was vanilla pudding in a small crust, topped with green, yellow and orange skittles. Baked @ 350…haha, nope!

a table showing April Fools Food creations - fake chicken pot pie that's actually a dessert and cupcakes that are actually made from cucumbers, humus, and tomatoes.

#16 “Cupcakes”–these were very nutrition cupcakes made with cucumbers, humus and tomatoes.  Coming to bakery near you….or not!! They are featured in the image above.

This event was truly a blast and even our flower centerpiece was adorned with “dirt” made of ores & pumpkin pudding!  It was a feast any fool would love!

Our event was harmless, but I did hear of a few others that didn’t make our feast that day!  Can we say toothpaste Oreos anyone?  HAHA!

Happy April Fools Day!

What a fun idea! It was fun to look through the pictures and try to pick out what each food actually was.
