Meet Savannah. She is a very active, high strung and outgoing pure breed German Shepard puppy who will be two years old this August. We have quickly learned the importance of giving her lots of exercise, attention and mental stimulation, daily. Today I am sharing my 8 Must-Have Items to Keep Your Dog Busy Outside This Summer! I was gifted some of these products in exchange for my honest review.
1. Chuckit!
Our dog LOVES to play fetch. In fact, this is an understatement. Our dog is a die-hard, passionate, “don’t distract me while I am working” ball fetcher. I am not exaggerating when I say she could play for hours! She has actually fallen asleep with her ball in her mouth because she will not give up on fetch!
The Chuckit! Has to be one of my all-time favorite products for active dogs and a must have item to keep your dog busy outside this summer! Before the Chuckit! My dog could often time catch the ball 2 seconds after it left my hand because I wasn’t strong enough to throw it very far. Now with the Chuckit! I can whip that thing across our whole lawn giving out dog way more exercise per throw. In addition to their original Chuckit, they also have tons of other toys such as a ring tosser, fetch sticks, balls and more!
Ready for my pregnancy hack? Or an “I don’t know how many more times I can bend over, pick up the ball and throw it” hack? Better yet, a “this ball is freaking disgusting and full of slobber” hack? Well, you can grab the ball with the launcher without ever touching it! I simply pull up a chair to sit down, put the end of the launcher over the ball as it lays on the ground, and use my foot to push down on the top of the launcher to push it onto the ball. It is not nearly as hard as it sounds! I promise!
2. Indestructible Ball
But sometimes, I get tired of throwing the ball, especially while pregnant. That is why I believe my exact words were “lifesaver” when I introduced Savannah to the Indestructible Ball by Indestructible Dog. This is a lifesaver of a ball to keep your dog busy outside this summer. This ball comes in sizes small (4.5 inches), medium (6 inches), large (10 inches) and extra-large (14 inches). Notice something special about the sizes? The ball is too big to fit in the dog’s mouth! Our dog can push it, bat at it, nudge it, but can’t actually pick it up. This is perfect!
Once I get the ball out and rolling, I never have to throw it again! This ball works on water or land, is indestructible and can provide entertainment that outlasts your dog’s energy, every time! The ball comes in 4 bright and vibrant colors; blue, red, orange and green. It is made of a durable, heavy-duty and indestructible plastic that is recyclable and even floats! Our dog loved it from the second we got it out. I was worried she might because frustrated when she couldn’t pick it up, but that didn’t seem to be an issue. Every once in a while we gave it a little kick and the chase was on!

3. Happy Dog Pet Water Fountain
A must-have item to keep your dog busy outside this summer is the Happy Dog Pet Water Fountain by Trio Gato! This is a high-quality, dog activated water fountain which allows your dog a limitless supply of fresh, clean water at his paw-tips, at all times of day or night. Not only is this a refreshing treat of clean water without the hassle of water bowls. But it also supplies your dog with some fun entertainment as an action-filled dog water hose toy!
With little effort, you certainly can teach an old dog new tricks. As your pet steps up on the bold paw design against the pedal’s white background, a neat, narrow stream of water is activated for your pet to drink from. Keep in mind that it might take your dog some time to get used to, especially depending on how they feel about water. We tested it out on a very hot day when we knew Savannah would appreciate being cooled off. She was hesitant at first but ended up treating it like a game. I am excited to see how she continues to enjoy it as summer progresses.
4. Kiddy Pool
When the water fountain just isn’t enough, Savannah likes to hit the pool. This doesn’t have to be an expensive, pet specific pool. We got one on clearance at the end of the season a few years back and Savannah doesn’t know any different. She loves to walk through it, drench her toys, and share the love by shaking her wet self as close to us as possible. Perfect for the super- hot, dog days of summer when you are desperate for anything that will keep your pooch cool. As well as keep your dog busy outside this summer.
5. Zisc Flying Disk
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s a Zisc Flying Disk! This modern, dog in mind, designed Frisbee is perfect to keep your dog busy outside this summer. The high-flying, human-hand-friendly frisbee for dogs is lightweight yet tough. Gentle on dog’s mouth, Zisc is soft, pliable, floatable and flies far. With its curled in edges, Zisc is easy to grip for both humans and dogs. Perfect for fetch and tug-o-war. Forgot your dog’s water or food bowl? Simply flip Zisc over as it doubles as a travel bowl. It is also dishwasher safe, latex free, made in the USA and comes with a Love It Guarantee!
The Zisc Flying Disk is made by West Paw. This company makes a variety of items perfect to keep your dog busy outside this summer, or inside any time of year. From beds to collars and leashes to a plethora of toys. Check out their guide to find the right toy for your dog.
We are still working to teach Savannah the difference between an action toy and a chew toy. The Zisc is made to be durable and long lasting, but I wouldn’t leave your power chewer unsupervised. Savannah has had this for a few weeks now and it is dirty, yet good as new. However, we do take it away when we are done playing. West Paw does ask that all owners keep their dogs safety in mind when using their product.
Savannah loved showing us how agile she is while jumping and leaping several feet into the air to catch her Zisc. This item really puts a nice twist on your standard game of fetch. Making the Zisc another perfect toy for keeping your dog busy outside this summer.
6. Bubbles
What a simple thing, yet fun activity for everyone involved! Bubbles are inexpensive, easy to find and require very little work at the end of the owner. At first Savannah wasn’t sure what to think, but eventually, she got a kick out of chasing after and trying to eat the bubbles. Make sure they are non-toxic. Often if they are safe for kids to play with, it is safe for pets. Just make sure they don’t get into and accidentally drink the bubble solution!
7. KONG Extreme and Easy Treat To Go Packets
After a long, hard day of active toys and being outside in the heat, every dog deserves a treat. This must have item to keep your dog busy outside this summer is the KONG Extreme paired with the Easy Treat To Go packets. The KONG Extreme dog toy represents the most durable strength of KONG rubber toys. This particular one is designed for the toughest of chewers. Check out their full line of products for the right Kong for your dog.
The KONG Extreme offers enrichment and helps satisfy dogs’ instinctual needs. The KONG unique, ultra-durable, natural rubber formula is designed for determined chewers, while the erratic bounce fulfills a dog’s need to play. Want to extend play time? Be sure to stuff your KONG with the Easy Treat To Go packets. You can even stuff and freeze for a longer-lasting challenge.
The KONG Easy Treat is sized in individually portioned, 1/2-oz pouches. These handy sized tasty treats are designed to use as a convenient solution when you’re on-the-go. As you know, we are on the go a lot and Savannah loves to come with! We use these as an added bonus treat on the top of a stuffed KONG Classic toy to provide a mentally stimulating challenge. With no refrigeration required, you can keep a few in the car, backpack or any other on-the-go place for an immediate need. This treat is made in the USA, highly digestible, and trans-fat free.
8. BULLYMAKE
Another great way to keep your dog busy outside this summer is with the products found inside your monthly BULLYMAKE subscription. Last month our box features the hard, plastic remote control and a very durable, rubbery material “computer mouse”. I am happy to say that over a month later, these toys are both still going strong and amongst Savannah’s favorite power-chewer items. Check out my BULLYMAKE Subscription box review for more details.

My dogs are getting up in age and aren't very interested in toys anymore but the KONG Extreme and Easy Treat To Go Packets would be a hit.
