I received products from Pediped and MAM in exchange for this review on 5 Reasons Why My Baby Wears Shoes. As always, all opinions are my own.
5 Reasons Why My Baby Wears Shoes
Baby stuff is just the cutest! From the teeny tiny sleepers to the soft cuddly stuff animals, I just can’t get enough! When we started buying and registering for baby “stuff” I wanted all the things! Then I quickly realized that that thought process is not only expensive, but it also takes up a lot of room. One thing I had debated on was whether or not we would bother with baby shoes. Let me tell you, I am glad we decided that baby shoes would be a must. Read on to see the 5 reasons why my baby wears shoes.
1. Help Keeps Those Itty Bitty Socks On
Yes, we have a July baby, but even summer babies get cold feet. That is the first reason why my baby wears shoes. We like to utilize our A/C in the house and vehicle. But we need to ensure that our son doesn’t get too cold. Socks are a great idea but rarely stay on an infant’s tiny little foot. Putting properly fitting shoes on really helps to keep those socks in place. Or skip the socks altogether and just go straight to the shoes.
2. Shoes Protect Baby/Toddlers Feet
My niece is ten months old and although she is not an independent walker just yet, so loves to explore! Putting shoes on her helps to ensure that her little baby feet are safe and protected from the elements. Whether there be crabgrass while we watch the local parade, or too hot to touch pavement at the park, shoes help to ensure that her feet are protected from anything they might touch.
3. Promote Healthy Foot Development
When you chose the right shoe, they can promote healthy foot development. pediped Originals, Grip ‘n’ Go, and Flex have been officially recognized by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) as being beneficial for children’s growing feet. In fact, pediped shoes were among the first children’s footwear to be awarded the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance for promoting healthy foot development.
I am not saying babies and toddlers need to wear shoes all the time, but the promotion of healthy foot development is another one of the reasons why my baby wears shoes.
4. They’re Cute
Who hasn’t dressed their baby in something simply because it is so darn cute! I am super guilty of this! Does my niece need all the adorable headbands? No. Does my son need a three-piece outfit with matching blanket and pacifier? No. But they have them anyways.
Sometimes it is fun to have things simply because of their cuteness factor. This alone is another one of the reasons why my baby wears shoes.
5. It’s Good Practice
As much as I love summer, I live in Minnesota and know that cold weather is just around the corner! Once the temperatures start to drop, we will have no choice but to make sure that our son keeps his feet covered and warm.
Right now I am flexible with him ditching the shoes and throwing them into the diaper bag if they are in the way or not staying on. But once the temperatures drop, this won’t be an option. Exposing him to the feelings, sensation, and idea of wearing shoes is hopefully getting him used to the idea of wearing shoes. Just another one of my reasons why my baby wears shoes.
So if you are like me and want to use shoes with your little ones, I urge you to check out pediped! This company makes shoes for all of your little one’s needs. They have several lines of shoes including baby shoes (size newborn to 24 months), toddler shoes (size 4-7) and big kids shoes (sizes 5 – 6Y).
pediped prides themselves on making the best first shoe ever! That is the reason why my baby wears shoes only from pediped! These shoes are ideal for infants and children learning to walk. The soft, flexible soles of pediped Originals are recommended by pediatricians and podiatrists because they allow children to closely mimic barefoot walking. Originals are made of the highest quality leather on the market and they also feature a soft foam insert between leather layers. They’re so comfortable, your child will not want to take them off!
Their toddler line is the perfect shoe for the active toddler transitioning from early walking to a confident stride. Their Grip ‘n’ Go line includes all the benefits of their Originals but also have special G2 Technology. Which includes a soft rubber sole, rounded edges that mimic the shape of a child’s foot, heel stability, and a soft toe box to allow toes to grip the floor. Grip ‘n’ Go provide active toddlers with the ideal combination of comfort, protection, and flexibility. They recommend you move into these styles once your child is walking 20 – 30 steps on their own without the help of holding onto mom and dad or objects around the house.
So now that you know the reasons why my baby wears shoes, check out another accessory we are choosing to use with our baby. The MAM comfort pacifier. According to the Mayo Clinic, there are several benefits to using a pacifier:
- A pacifier might soothe a fussy baby. Some babies are happiest when they’re sucking on something.
- Pacifiers offer temporary distraction. A pacifier might come in handy during and after shots, blood tests or other procedures.
- It might help your baby fall asleep. If your baby has trouble settling down, a pacifier might do the trick. Pacifier use does not appear to have any impact on a baby’s length of sleep or nighttime awakenings.
- A pacifier might ease discomfort during flights. Babies can’t intentionally “pop” their ears by swallowing or yawning to relieve ear pain caused by air pressure changes. Sucking on a pacifier might help.
- A pacifier might help reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Sucking on a pacifier at nap time and bedtime might reduce the risk of SIDS. If you’re breastfeeding, wait to offer a pacifier until your baby is 3 to 4 weeks old and you’ve settled into an effective nursing routine.
- Pacifiers are disposable. When it’s time to stop using pacifiers, throw them away. If your child prefers to suck on his or her thumb or fingers, it might be more difficult to break the habit.
Comfort pacifier By MAM
The MAM Comfort pacifier is designed to keep baby calm and promote proper oral development. It is a 100% silicone, one-piece pacifier which is specially designed for newborns. It is 32% lighter than competitive one-piece silicone pacifiers allowing the pacifier to stay in the baby’s mouth more easily. The orthodontic symmetrical nipple is easily accepted by babies and promotes proper oral development.
Our newborn son loves his MAM pacifier. It does indeed seem to stay in better than most newborn pacifiers. I also like the safety of it being one piece to lessen the likelihood of choking.
If you plan to use a pacifier with your baby, or have a baby that already loves their pacifier, check out the MAM Comfort pacifier. Be sure to check out the other MAM products, such as their anti-colic bottles featured in my post here.
