It might only be May still but summer came roaring in like a lion here in Minnesota! We reached 90 degrees already one day and 80’s the rest of the week! So the timing couldn’t have been better for Step 2 to send us their new Step2 Pump & Splash Discovery Water Table to help us cool off.
Water Tables Are A MUST Have!
As a mom of a large family, currently including two foster kiddos; there are certain toys I’ve found that have been worth their weight in gold. Over the years as a parent, a timespan of 20+ years, we’ve owned a lot of different toys and gear. Now that we basically started over with Ruby and also have two small foster children, we’re back to square one. With summer on the horizon and 3 kids ages three and under, a water table is at the top of my must have list once again!
Top 5 Reasons Why We Need A Water Table
First off, let me warn you. NEVER let your child out to play for a couple minutes with a full water table in proximity while said child is wearing clothes you need to have them leave wearing in the next few minutes. (HA! Total rookie mistake I’ve made more than once!)
1). A Water Table Is A Cheap Way To Stay Cool In The Summer: Water tables are such a cheap and easy investment that allows kids to get wet and cool down without the hassle (or expense) of a pool.
2). Water Tables Are Easy To Maintain: While I’ve always dreamed of having a pool, the thing that keeps me from pursuing is the maintenance. I LOVE how easy water tables are to maintain and clean! The best way to keep your water table looking great is to empty after every use and just refill when needed. But if we forget to empty and grime or water buildup pursue, my husband just scrubs it down with hot, soapy water and some cleaner; making it look brand new again.
3). They Are Fairly Mess Free: Water tables use WATER of course! So they are pretty much a ‘mess free’ activity (unlike painting, slime, etc.). Just have the kids in swimsuits or be ready with a spare change of clothing because my kids always get VERY wet! (PRO TIP: Sometimes they get so wet that you can totally call it bath time and just go straight to pjs and bedtime!)
4). Great For A Variety Of Ages: I also appreciate the longevity of water tables. Babies and toddlers LOVE them but my older kids can also be found playing around with the water table! It works perfectly for holding water balloons, sponges, etc. as well as filling up water squirters so the big kids take full advantage of the easy access.

Assembly was pretty quick and easy. The instructions were simple to follow. My husband had everything together, with the exception of the broken fin, within about 10 minutes. I reached out to Step2 letting them know one piece arrived broken and they quickly sent a replacement out. After snapping that piece into place, we were ready for action!
