5 Back to School Items Most Parents Forget to Purchase

August 7, 2017 by Janessa 1 Comment

I’m proud to be working with CVS Pharmacy to help spread the word about #BetterHealthMadeEasy and how to #FindYourHealthy. All opinions expressed are my own, and all product claims or program details shared should be verified at CVS.com or with the appropriate manufacturers.

Back-to-School is in full swing now – I even have some friends who have children starting school on August 1st! We all know that back-to-school shopping means new crayons, markers, pens, pencils, papers, notebooks, folders, and maybe even a pair of new shoes and a few outfits. But, every year, parents all over the US forget some VERY important back-to-school items and today I wanted to bring those things to your attention so you can be prepared for the upcoming school year.

Allergy, Cold and Flu Supplies

I get it, it’s still summer and the sniffles might be the furthest thing from your mind but the truth is, once you get all of those kids together in school, they are going to start bringing home germs and sickness. I remember clearly last year that it was less than 2 weeks after the start of the school year when my Facebook feed was flooded with local parents talking about their child(ren) already coming down with a cold.  It’s inevitable and no one wants to have to run out for cold medicine at 10pm. We homeschool but still find that our kids end up coming down with back-to-school colds thanks to their friends at church and homeschool get-togethers.

That’s why I’ve loaded up my medicine cabinet with supplies from CVS Pharmacy. The CVS Health line of products has everything I need and it’s always priced so affordably!

Multivitamins

I’ll be the first to admit that I sometimes slack off with giving my kids vitamins during the summer. They are outside so much, soaking up that vitamin D and getting so many fresh fruits and veggies in. But now that it’s back-to-school season, it’s so important to make sure they are getting all of the vitamins and minerals they need. This will help them have the energy at school and give their immune system a little boost to hopefully help ward-off some of the viruses that will come their way. I’m SO glad someone thought to invent gummy vitamins! Where were these when I was a child?! The chewable vitamins my mom made me take were gross, but my kids never complain about taking a gummy vitamin! CVS Gummy Dinos  have no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, just lots of great vitamins and minerals their growing bodies need!

Bandages/Antiseptic Ointment

If you have a child in elementary school, no doubt they are going to come home with some playground boo-boos! I can not even count how many times my kids end up with scraped knees. Just this past weekend we went to the church picnic and somehow my daughter walked way with a huge bruise on her arm from playing on the see-saw. You might want to consider tucking a few bandages into your child’s backpack or even sending a full box of bandages in for the teacher to keep at his or her desk for all of the students. I’m sure that would be appreciated!

After-School Snacks

Kids come home from school and they are generally hungry….and dinner’s not ready yet. I find it’s so helpful to keep an assortment of healthy snacks on hand. I don’t want my kids to fill up on junk right before dinner, but I feel good about them munching on nuts, trail mix, and other healthy snacks that will help to tie them over until dinnertime.  So, right before school starts, I stock up big time on a huge assortment.

I absolutely love how CVS Pharmacy has made the move towards providing a large assortment of healthy snacks in their stores, ones that I can feel good about giving to our family. I used to have to drive an hour towards the bigger cities to find a selection like this, but now I just drive down the street to CVS! The Gold Emblem Abound brand offers a huge selection of nutritious snacks that are free from artificial preservatives and flavors. My kids and I can’t get enough of the Fruit & Veggie Snack Bars. They are so yummy! Plus CVS carries other hard-to-find brands, like Rhythm Superfoods and Goodness Knows. I never thought I could get my kids to eat something like beats, but put them in chip for and they just gobble them down like candy. CVS Pharmacy is the only place locally I have been able to find these and so many more great snack foods.

Sticky Notes

It only takes a minute to write a quick note to leave in your child’s lunch box or backpack, but it can really brighten their day. I also like to keep a Sticky Notes on hand so I can leave myself (or my children) important reminders, like one on the bathroom mirror so they don’t forget to brush their teeth before heading out the door.

CVS is just the place to go to stock up on these commonly forgotten back-to-school supplies, plus all of the crayons, notebooks, pencils, etc. that your child(ren) will need to get through the year.

I recently talked pretty in-depth about the benefits of taking advantage of the Extra Care Rewards program and the benefits of utilizing the CVS app, so I won’t repeat all of those details to you. (If you didn’t read those posts, make sure you do! There is a lot of valuable, money-saving info in those!) However, I did want to mention some amazing new Extra Care Rewards changes that you might not be aware of. If you’re already a member of the ExtraCare Rewards program, you’ve probably noticed an increase in the number of personalized communications you’ve received. If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t always open the promotional emails in your inbox, you’re going to want to make sure you start paying attention to the CVS emails coming your way!  Why you ask? Well because special, customized deals, app-only promotions and information on new products – including “Just Because” ExtraBucks Rewards and “Free Items on the House,” are being delivered via email to millions of customers as a surprise treat. That’s right, CVS is giving out free items in select emails, so don’t send them to the trashcan!

I love that while some nationally-recognized loyalty reward programs have taken steps to curb the benefits available to members, the CVS Pharmacy ExtraCare program is instead inventing new ways to maximize value for its loyal member base. When you are loyal to a brand, you deserve to be rewarded! This spring, the “Just Because” campaign gave millions $2 in ExtraBucks Rewards for simply being a member of the program. Plus, as always, ExtraBucks Rewards members continue to earn 2% back on nearly every dollar spent, every time they scan there card. And while you might be thinking that 2% doesn’t sound like much, it REALLY adds up.

If you haven’t yet downloaded the CVS app or signed up to receive ExtraCare emails, now is the time to do it. In fact, members who sign up for email communications or download the CVS Pharmacy app save three times more than customers who do not. That’s a HUGE savings!

With all of the extra expenses that back-to-school shopping brings, I’m so thankful to have the CVS Pharmacy Extra Care Rewards program making it easy for me to save money on the things our family needs!

It seems like there is always something that gets forgotten on the list. This is a good reminder of some things to include.
