Hey there mamas. I bet life looks a bit different now that you have kids. A lot changes after we have a baby, especially our bodies. Below I am sharing 4 ways to love your postpartum body. Yes, it includes MORE change. But I promise it will be okay. Figure8 Moms gifted me the items featured in this post. Their post-baby line of clothing is perfect for any mama that needs a little extra help or support with her postpartum body.
4 Ways To Love Your Postpartum Body
I remember the first picture I saw of myself after my son was born. If it wasn’t for the fact that he was in my arms, I would have thought I was still pregnant. At first, I couldn’t even love that picture for all that it represented, because I was too preoccupied with what I had lost – my prebaby body!
With time, I have learned to make some changes to love my postpartum body for what it is and what it has given me. Along the way, I have also found some great clothing products and support to help with my new figure.
1. Change The Way You Speak To Yourself.
Would you ever say half the things you say to yourself to your best friend? Heck No! I know I wouldn’t. We need to stop talking to ourselves with such hatred and disgust and start talking to ourselves the way we would talk to our friends. Stop saying (and thinking) the negative things about your postpartum body. And start reframing it into a positive light. Try this:
- It took my body 9 months to grow this baby. It makes sense that it will take at least that long to go back to the way it was before.
- Wow. My body can do amazing things! My body grew another human life. What an honor.
- My body, my weight, my pant size does not define who I am.
- Clothing sizes are just numbers. They mean nothing more than a way to organize clothing on the shelf.
- My body is different now and that is okay.
2. Change The Way You Think About Your Body
I love this statement by Ntima Preusser in her post titled “We Need To Stop Saying Babies Ruin Bodies“. Ntima writes, “I have dark pools under my eyes. A valley where my belly button once was. Hips with a new amplitude that my teenage self wouldn’t recognize. I have lines mapped across the mountains of stretched skins leftover on my midsection. Lightning bolts on my sides proving I was once too small to contain all of the love that filled me. Lines indicating that my daughter once lived inside of me.” What a beautiful way to describe her postpartum body.
3. Change Your Actions
Ready for some tough love? Change your actions if you aren’t happy. Albert Einstien is well known for his saying, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” If we continue to do things that don’t match the mind, body, lifestyle, etc that we want, we can’t expect things to change.
I am not saying you need to change! But if you don’t like things the way they are, you need to work to accept them or change them. You can’t expect things to be different if you aren’t willing to do things differently, either physically or mentally. So please, try to learn to love that postpartum body or find something you enjoy doing to make the difference you want to see in your postpartum belly.
4. Change Your Vision On What Should Be
Be careful to not compare yourself to others. Just as every baby is different and grows and develops at his/her own speed, so does every postpartum body. Do not compare yourself to your Facebook friends, Instagram celebrities or the doctor’s clearance that you can start working out 2 weeks post-baby.
Listen to your body and your physical and mental needs. Don’t think you need to get back to a certain weight, pant size or workout routine in X amount of time just because somebody else did. You do you, girl!
Let’s Be Real
Now I don’t want anyone to leave this post feeling confused. I do think that we need to learn to love our postpartum body the way it is. There is no shame in the miracle your body went through to grow another human being and give birth to your baby. My hope is that you learn to accept your postpartum belly and body for what it is. Yet, that doesn’t mean we can’t want to make improvements.
For example, I like my face, but I still wear makeup! Just like I am learning to accept and maybe even like my postpartum body. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to still look good in my clothes. That is why I love Figure8 Moms’ clothing line for “After Baby”.
My son is 8 months old. For the past 8 months, I have been asking moms where to find the best postpartum clothes to dress this new postpartum body. I found myself in this weird limbo shortly after having my son where my maternity pants were too big, yet my pre-baby pants were nowhere near buttoning. I could buy bigger pants. Which I did. Yet, they didn’t necessarily fit or look flattering.
Are you having the same issue dressing your postpartum body? If the answer is yes, then say hello to Figure8 Moms. They actually have an “after baby” clothing line.
Jeans For Your Postpartum Body
I love their Yummie Tummie Skinny Figure Flattering Jean. They are made with the postpartum baby belly in mind! These skinnies are a mid-rise jean with a shorter zipper to give the illusion of a low-rise. Which hides that muffin top! The pockets in the back are higher to give the look of a lifted rear—who wouldn’t want that? Plus, the stretch that we mamas love so much, offers comfort and movement but won’t bag or sag.
This jean is a great transition jean after your baby. It flatters all the right spots and is higher in the back, so you won’t flash anyone. Note this product does not have any shapewear technology; it is designed to make you look great!
Yummie 6-in-1 Shaping Tank
Sometimes I need something that will work a little harder. That is where my Yummie 6-in-1 Shaping Tank comes in handy. You guys. This is the most versatile tank ever! It can be worn 6 different ways, depending on where you place the adjustable inner panels. Either at the front, back, or all around. It can also be worn as a scoop neck or v-neck. I could literally wear this all week if my son doesn’t spit up on it!
It offers varying compression from level 3 medium to level 5 extra firm, depending on where panels are placed. The floating inner mesh panels provide 360° of compression with the option of placing it 3 ways (front, back or all around). The bonded edges at the neckline and hem ensure that it lays flat under clothing. Or if you are daring enough, you can wear it alone!
