Easy Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Cookies

Our dog Emmy shares my love of food. She can hear and recognize the sound of a cheese slice being removed from its wrapper from a significant distance, much the same as I can.

She may be getting older and starting to slow down (also like me) but, for food, she transforms back into a pup (still like me). She closes the distance with the speed and agility of a professional athlete (very much unlike me).

Since Emmy is a lover of food like myself and, since summer is the season of fun and food, I wanted her to get to enjoy some special treats with the rest of the family. After all, Janessa and I have had Emmy since the early years of our marriage and she is a member of our family.

I appreciate having someone around who loves food as much as I do! In the spirit of that, Janessa, the kids, and I went into the kitchen and created a new treat for Emmy to enjoy.

She LOVES these easy, three-ingredient peanut, butter dog cookies!

Three-Ingredient Peanut Butter Dog Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Dry Dog Food (I used Beneful for this recipe but you could swap that for your preferred brand)
  • 1/3 Cup Peanut butter
  • 1 Egg

Directions

  1. Blend 1 cup of dry dog food in a blender for 30 seconds or until blended into fine pieces.
  2. Transfer the crushed dog food to a mixing bowl.
  3. Add 1/3 cup peanut butter and 1 egg, then mix all 3 things well.
  4. Form the dough into 1-inch balls and place on a baking sheet.
  5. Flatten the cookie balls to your desired thickness (ours were about 1/2 inch). Cookies will not spread out while baking. If you find that your cookies aren’t sticking together enough, just add a little bit of water.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes.
  7. Let cool and serve!

So easy to make, even I could do it! The kids really loved helping to fix these for Emmy!

Emmy, of course, loved them. Usually when we give Emmy a treat, she wants it broken in two and will keep returning the treat to you until you do so.

It is weird and I don’t understand it, but I guess it is just a quirk that she has. Not this time, though. She destroyed the cookies like she was stealing them from the kids and had to get rid of the evidence.

My puppy's 1st birthday is in three days. These would be great to make for her. I love that these are only three simple ingredients. It was a really great idea to use dog food as the base of the recipe and mix it in the blender.
