Britax B-Agile 3/B-Safe 35 Travel System Review

Over the years I have reviewed a lot of baby gear, from high chairs, to car seats, to strollers and more. One of the brands I’ve come to know and trust is when it comes to my baby is Britax.

Britax Child Safety Inc. is a leading child seat manufacturer. For more than three decades, it has been a pioneer in developing car seat safety. Britax’s full line of car seats offers side impact protection, and its True Side Impact Protection™ family of products features the highest level of side impact protection available on the market. I’m a huge fan of the ClickTight car seats that Britax offers!

Recently I was sent a Britax B-Agile 3 / B-Safe 35 Travel System (at no cost) to facilitate a review for you and I’m excited to tell you all about it today.

Britax 2016 B-Agile 3B-Safe 35 Travel System 2

This travel system comes with infant car seat, stroller, and one car seat base. The infant car seat and base are already fully assembled and the stroller assembly was simply popping the wheels into place. It was out of the box and ready to go in less than 5 minutes.

Britax B-Safe 35 Infant Car Seat

I thought I’d start out by talking about the infant car seat included with this travel system (the Britax B-Safe 35) and then I’ll move onto the stroller. The Britax B-Safe 35 can be used for infants who are between 4-35 pounds and less than 32 inches in height. Of course, the most important thing about a car seat is keeping your little one safe, and the B-Safe 35 is packed full of safety features like:

  • SafeCell Impact Protection is an integrated system of safety components that works to protect your child beyond federal safety standards.
  • Side impact protection features a deep foam-lined shell to shield your child. Impact-absorbing base compresses to reduce the rough force of a collision.
  • Impact-stabilizing steel frame offers superior strength where you need it most: at the connection point to the vehicle.

After safety, the next feature I check for is the ability to loosen/tighten the harness straps quickly and easily from the front of the car seat. I’ve learned from experience how valuable this feature is! Thankfully, the B-Safe 35 has a red button at the front that allows you to adjust the strap tightness with ease.

The B-Safe 35 also features a removable head pad and shoulder strap pads for baby’s comfort and an extra large canopy to protect your baby from the sun and rain. The canopy is probably the sturdiest I’ve found so far for an infant car seat, so I love that feature!

There’s only one negative aspect to this car seat that I found. I really like it when my seats features a no-rethread harness, (which means you can adjust the height by simply pushing a button and sliding the harness to the desired position) and this seat requires rethreading. If this is a feature that’s important to you too, an easy fix is to upgrade your travel system to the 2016 B-Agile 3/B-Safe 35 Elite Travel System for just $30 more. For me, it would be worth the little bit of extra money for that great feature!

Car Seat Installation

A car seat is only going to function at 100% if you can achieve a good install. This travel system comes with one base for the car seat (although it can also be installed without the base). You can install the base with the LATCH system or the seat belt. Whenever possible, I prefer to use LATCH which is how I installed it in our 2013 Honda Odyssey. The base features SafeCenter LATCH Installation, which means it has center-pull straps that tighten quickly and easily which helps you to achieve a better, tighter (hence SAFER) fit in the car with minimal effort. I found the install quick, easy and tight.

2016 Britax B-Agile 3

Now let’s talk about the B-Agile 3 stroller. It is chock-full of great features ! Because you can use it from birth to 55 pounds, it’s the only stroller you’ll ever need (unless of course you end up with 2 young children, and if that happens, check out the Britax B-Agile Double stroller). The stroller seat can only be used in the forward-facing position, but if you’d like your baby to face you, just attach the infant car seat using the easy Click and Go System. I love being able to attach the car seat when we arrive at our destination and my baby is still sleeping too.

The B-Agile 3 stroller is built on a lightweight aluminum frame, which makes it not only easy to carry but also very easy to push and steer. The 3-wheel configuration with swivel front wheel contributes to making steering a breeze and also provides an ultra-tight turning radius. The all wheel suspension system helps to give you a smoother ride over uneven surfaces – this is important when you are pushing a sleeping baby!

The seat has an infinite adjustable recline to help you find just the right incline position for your little one, whether they are sleeping or trying to look out at the world around them. The canopy is very durable, stays in place well, and features a flap that opens up to a mesh peekaboo window that’s secured with hook and loop closure.

Other great features of this stroller include:

  • An adjustable 5 point harness to keep your child safely in place.
  • Large storage basket underneath.
  • Linked parking brake.
  • Quick, easy one-handed fold design that stays secured with a frame lock.

Real World Testing

Baby gear can sound great on paper, but it really needs to be tested in the real world. I’ve had this travel system for the past few weeks now, so it’s gotten quite a bit of use. The infant car seat proved to be easy to use. I didn’t have any trouble getting my son in/out of the car seat. Clicking it into and out of the base was also very easy, as was installing it with the LATCH system. In fact, tightening the base with the LATCH system on this seat was easier than any of the other ones I’ve tried in the past thanks to the center pull straps.

Britax BAgile in Trunk

As far as the B-Agile 3 stroller goes, overall I LOVE it! It’s so easy to use! It zips in and out of tight spaces with ease, looks great, and fits well in the trunk of my minivan. So, what are the cons for this stroller? I do wish it came with a cup holder and/or parent organizer, but those can be purchased separately, so not a deal-breaker. There are two small pockets located on the back flap that hangs down from the canopy for storing small items like a phone or pacifier, so that is helpful.

Lastly, my older style B-Agile Double Stroller has the no-rethread system for the harness straps, this stroller does not. Again, like the car seat, I wish this stroller had that feature but it just takes a few extra minutes to adjust when needed.

Britax Travel System 3

As far as travel systems go, this is one of the best systems I’ve used to date! The seat snaps into place so easily, every time, and I like that I don’t have to remove the main seat of the stroller to snap in the infant seat. I also like that I can open both the canopy on the stroller and the car seat to give complete coverage for my baby. It’s clearly a quality product that is built to last while still providing you and your baby with the functions, style, and comfort you need.

Visit Britax to learn more about this car seat, other car seats, strollers, travel systems, and carriers that Britax makes. You can purchase this seat through many retailers, including Amazon.com.

Disclosures: The travel system was sent to me at no cost to facilitate this review.

I love Britax products too. They seem to hold up well! I love that the car seat has a steel frame and that the stroller has a one hand fold! Looks like a great system!

With this being our first baby I really appreciate your advice from experiences such as having to rethread the harness, I never would have thought to look for that! I also loved being able to see the stroller folded and in the trunk for comparison. I love the all black, classic look of the stroller and car seat!

Thank you for the thorough review. I realize after reading what you wrote about the car seat that my car seat is seriously lacking. It's definitely time to upgrade. I also totally agree with you about the threading. It is a pain in the you know what!!!
