Preparing For Baby #4 with the Snuggle Nest Surround XL from Baby Delight

Snuggle Nest in Box

When I was pregnant with my first baby, one of the things I thought I knew about my parenting style would be that we would not co-sleep. I was afraid to start a habit of the kids sleeping in our bed. Well, it took about 2 hours after the birth of my daughter for all of that to change. I had a home birth and my daughter was born a little after 1am. By about 3am we were ready to go to sleep….except the minute I put my new baby in her bassinet she cried. If I put her in bed next to us, she was happy as could be. I was exhausted and my midwife suggested letting her sleep with us……..and I’ve been a co-sleeping mom ever since.

Each of my babies has been different and co-slept with us to varying degrees. When my first was about 4 months old she was clearly no longer comfortable in our bed and wanted her own space. She transitioned to a crib much easier than I transitioned to putting her there! My next child slept in a Moses basket next to me for a few months until he started pulling up and needed to be moved to his crib. And my third has been my longest co-sleeper so far, staying in our bed until probably 7 months or so. She would start the night in her bassinet usually but always end up in our bed by the morning. It worked well for us and transitioning her to her crib again didn’t prove to be an issue. With each new baby I’ve become more comfortable co-sleeping with my children and it has also really made breastfeeding an easier experience for me.

Of course, every parent worries about where their baby is sleeping, no matter if it’s co-sleeping, bassinet sleeping, crib sleeping, or a combination of those. You’re always checking to make sure they are breathing, they aren’t too hot or too cold, that the covers aren’t covering their face, etc. I was so excited when I saw the Snuggle Nests from Baby Delight on my recent trip to the ABC Expo because it addresses many of the concerns parents have about co-sleeping.  It went on my list of items to try with our 4th little one and I was delighted when they agreed to send me one to try!

The New Snuggle Nest Surround XL is designed to offer a greater sense of security for newborns when co-sleeping with parents. The new extended length and slightly narrowed foot area offers a comfortable space for your baby, and a sleeker profile in the adult bed.

Snuggle Nest 2

The Snuggle Nest Surround XL is comprised of two rigid, vented wall units at each end, which help to block adult bedding and create an exclusive sleeping area for baby. Two flexible side panels built into the soft quilted cover, are filled with thick structural mesh, and allow easy and comfortable access to baby, while forming an air barrier from adult bodies and bedding. Also included are a firm mattress with a wraparound sheet and optional 1.5” incline wedge. By placing the Snuggle Nest against the headboard of the adult bed, infants are more removed from the “rollover zone’ and bedding.

For additional comfort and soothing, a Sound & Light unit is included, featuring music and familiar womb sounds, as well as a soft light for nighttime checks on baby. The Snuggle Nest folds quickly and compactly for handy portability for parents on the go. Not for use in cribs or bassinets.

Hi! Welcome to my blog. My husband and I were high school sweethearts who married over 10 years ago. We now have 4 children: Maggie (age 6), Jacob (age 3), Zellene (age 1) and our youngest little guy Gideon born in February 2016. I love sharing about the great products I find that help to make our lives easier, while also talking about some of my passions like home birth & natural childbirth, travel, family life, and living a semi-green life.

  1. Why couldn’t they have had this when my children were little!! Such a great idea! My daughter slept with me for a long time! I am getting ready to be a grandmother, so this would be a great gift for my daughter!!

  2. As a new mom, I’ll definitely have to co-sleep and I plan on using this snuggle nest to do it! I love how lightweight and portable it is. It’s not too bulky and it actually looks comfortable for baby. I really like that this snuggle nest allows for mother and child to be close at all times! It’s definitely one of my favorite baby products! Thanks for sharing!

  3. I love that it gives up parents a sense of security when cosleeping!! I was the paranoid mom who could never do it!! But I probably could with this! What a comforting baby item to have!! Love it!!

  4. We ended up having to co-sleep with our first quite a bit. We didn’t realize it – so all we had was a bassinet! We are definitely registering for this with baby #2 due in June so I don’t wake up 20 times in the night worried about the baby!

  5. My husband was never into bed sharing but now with our second baby and a bigger bed he’s more accepting of it. He did tell me a mini bed like this would make him feel a lot better about sharing space!

  6. I love how easy this is to use and set up, I love the fact that its easily transported and the comfort of this
    for the baby.

  7. I also wasn’t planning to bedshare with my first, but it ended up being so much easier. This product would make me feel safer, #2 will be here soon!

  8. I have seen these with both of my kids, but have always been back and forth on getting one. My first daughter for my sanity of every time she even moved I would wake up moved out of our bedroom at 2 weeks, my son was in our room for the first four months, and co-slept off and on. I was nervous having him in bed with me though because I like a gazillion blankents and my husband was afraid that he would smother the baby. Now knowing how nice it is to have baby right in bed especially those first few months when nursing I think this would be something we would use since the baby is right there.Yet, there is still that protection to keep blankets off and the ridge walls to block us from rolling over on the baby.

  9. This product is sooo cute and looks amazing !!!! I would love to win for my baby boy Noah . . He could really use this product

  10. I wish I would have had this when my little ones were babies. Breastfeeding every 2 hours in the night this would have been handy.

  11. I always thought I would be against co-sleeping too. Our youngest is a year old and still sleeps with us. This would have been very handy to have when he was born.

  12. This looks absolutely wonderful. It would have been nice to have one of these when I had my children. We are trying to have another one so i will definitely be getting one with our next baby.

  13. This is such a great idea! I am pregnant and so want to get one of these because it is useful and cute. I have heard so many stories of new moms sleeping with there new born in bed because they are so tired and dont want to move baby. That scared me but having one of these would help feel safe while sleeping and the baby is close. This is a must for me! Thanks for the info!

  14. Congrats to you and your husband Janessa!! I hope you have a wonderful and blessed delivery of your little one on the way!! I also like the fact of co-sleeping…I did with all 3 of my children. As parents we are all concerned about the baby with sleeping, if they will be okay and the fact that when they are by us, they are safe!! I can agree with you that co-sleeping is great and my kids…well they were all happy and comfortable. This Snuggle Nest Surround XL would be a great gift….I know 2 who are expecting and will have their little ones soon. I am going to suggest this item to them and tell them to enter!!

  17. We had one without the bottom edges for our daughter but she would wiggle down in it. Would love to have this type for #2 due in feb!

  18. I love this idea. We’re currently trying to conceive so fingers crossed that I will need this soon! I co-slept with my other children when they were babies and loved it. I never had anything like this though. Such a great idea.

  19. This sounds like the PERFECT solution to my tiny house woes! I was stressing about where baby #3 will sleep those first few months.
