One of my favorite activities of the holiday season is baking delicious foods to enjoy with my family and friends! If you’re like me though, sometimes it can get a little hectic around the house and you find yourself scrambling to make a delicious dish to take to a holiday party that won’t take hours to fix. That’s when I whip up a quick batch of Candy Cane Cupcakes! They not only taste great, they are always a huge hit with the kids!
They are really simple to make. Just make your favorite cupcake recipe then frost with white icing (or feel free to dye it green or red if you’d like). Grab a box of candy canes. This time I let the kids pick them out and they choose a colorful assortment of fruity flavors. If you want to look extra festive though, go with the traditional red and white candy canes. Unwrap them and put them inside of a Ziploc bag. Use a rolling pin to crush the candy canes into smaller pieces. (You may need to double bag it to keep the bag from getting holes). If you are really pressed for time, you could also put them all into a blender and blend for just a quick second. Then just drop a few on the crushed candy pieces onto your cupcakes.
I had 3 little helpers while making mine and while they might not look ready for a debut in a Martha Stewart magazine, they still turned out pretty good and definitely look festive! Most importantly, the kids and I had a blast making them together to share with their friends!
If you’ll be taking them with you to a party, the last thing you want to do is have them topple over in the car! That’s why I’m loving the Rubbermaid Party Serving Kit. It has so many great uses for traveling with food! It comes with 2 different inserts: one that is perfect for standard sized cupcakes (or other food items that size, like muffins) and one that is perfect for deviled eggs, Jell-O Jiggler eggs, mini-cupcakes, and more. You can also take both inserts out and use it to carry a cake, pumpkin roll, etc..
Since it has a lockable lid (with carrying handle), it makes traveling with food so easy this holiday season! As a bonus, when used for cupcake storage, if my children want to have a cupcake and MUST pick their own cupcake, they can do so without touching all of the other surrounding cupcakes (if you’re a mom, you know what I mean!).
