The E-Fun Nextbook 10 {A 2-in-1 Tablet For Under $250?!}

Nextbook 10 2-in-1 Tablet

I do a lot of video editing so my laptop is pretty tricked out. But, the more powerful a laptop is, the larger it has to be. Because of this, it is a pain to carry around. It takes up a very large amount of space in any backpack big enough to carry it. Add the power cables and your backpack is pretty well filled. Don’t get me wrong, I love my laptop, but it isn’t exactly convenient to take on a trip.

I’ve looked into tablets but they have their own limitations. The operating system (beit Android or iOS) is somewhat limited compared to an operating system like Windows or Apple’s OS X. I needed something that was a hybrid of sorts; a nice compromise between size, operating system, and usability. My biggest need would be light multimedia applications like Netflix and some word processing wrapped in a small package to take on trips.

The E-Fun Nextbook 10 2-in-1 tablet fit the bill and it’s under $250!

The Nextbook 10 is packed with features for its price including:

  • Windows 8.1 operating system (free upgrade to Windows 10 later this year)
  • Free year of Office 365 Personal with 1TB OneDrive online cloud storage
  • 10.1” 1280 x 800 IPS capacitive touch screen
  • Quad-Core Intel® AtomTM Z3735G Processor (X86, 1.8GHz)
  • 1GB DDR3L system memory; 32GB onboard storage memory
  • Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 2.0 megapixel front and rear cameras with integrated microphone
  • microHDMI, microUSB, and microSD ports
  • Preloaded VUDU Movies and TV app; NOOK for Windows 8 app

The keyboard attaches via two physical clips and a magnet that are released by pressing the silver button positioned just in front of the screen. The clips hold pretty well with only the occasional loss of electronic connection if you move the unit abruptly or pick it up by the screen. The touch pad works well enough considering that the Nextbook is less than $250 but I often find myself using a wireless mouse for added convenience and speed. The keyboard hosts two USB ports, a microphone/headphone jack, a microUSB port, a microHDMI port, and a microSD port for expanding the internal memory which sits at 32GB. If you like to save a lot of media on your devices, I’d suggest investing in a large capacity microSD card. The Nextbook 10 also comes with a free year of 1 TB OneDrive cloud storage and Office 365 Personal!

The screen is a high resolution (1280×800) 10.1″ IPS touch screen. It’s not high definition but at its size, you hardly notice. Touch sensitivity works very well overall. Sometimes the calibration seems slightly off, but it has become less of an issue as I have continued to use the tablet. I’ve become quite good at typing with sufficient speed on the onscreen keyboard, if I do say so myself! I’ve been slowly learning all the tricks of using a tablet with a Windows operating system. For example, to right-click, you press and hold on whatever you are right-clicking. A box will appear and as you let go of the screen, the right-click menu will appear. As another example, you can cycle back to your previous screen or app by sliding from left to right on the left side of the screen. As this is my first Windows tablet, I am sure I will discover many other useful screen gestures.

The quad core processor provides a decent amount of power. I’ve experienced very few hiccups as I’ve used the Nextbook 10. The only app that has given me any sort of issue was Flixster, so I have to assume the issue was with the app itself and not the device. Every other app I’ve used has performed flawlessly.

I’m not a Skype user, nor am I a shutter bug, but the Nextbook 10 has a 2.0 MP camera on both the front and back of the device should I ever need to capture a moment and my camera is not near by.

Nextbook 10 2-in-1 Tablet

The battery is not long-lived especially if you don’t completely log out of your user profile before closing the lid. It will be dead within a few hours unless it is plugged in. The battery lasts longer if you do log out before closing the lid. Otherwise, the battery lasts plenty long enough for my daily uses. In general, I think it would meet the needs of most users.

Overall, I love my new Nextbook 10 2-in-1 tablet. Having the convenience of a laptop or tablet at my whim is a fantastic feature and one that I had no idea I’d love so much! If you’ve never tried a 2-in-1, I’d highly suggest you give the Nextbook 10 a try. You’ll love the convenience of the combination!

  2. My life is suddenly full of screens, that being said, after the review, this is definitely on my list of things to replace my current “OK” devices.

  3. This is one nice laptop. This would really come in handy for me since I am disabled & have a hard time getting to the desktop computer.

  4. I could use a new laptop myself. My hard drive is fixing to die on me. I can hear it rattling when I power on every morning. It’s going on five years old, so it’s definitely on it’s last leg.

  5. I must say i absolutely love mine i have the asus version and it far exceded my expectations. Its a lot like the Microsoft surface at a fraction of the price. I would love more then anything to win this for my daughter, she is so deserving of this and would be so excited to have her own. Thank you for the chance!

  6. I love the thought of a two in one. With the E-Fun Nextbook it sounds like it can do almost everything that I can do on my laptop without the weight of the laptop.
At first I thought this would be great for traveling and vacation at the beach but after thinking I would probably use my laptop for work and this at night because it is lightweight and perfect for reading e-mails and surfing the net.

  7. I really could use a new laptop and could give this one to my daughter who is going into the 7th grade. Thanks for the chance to win it!

  8. Wow netbook 10 tablet has great features. I love that it has Windows for main education and learning. Its more widely used for schooling. I love it has front and rear facing camera. 11. What a great review…I am more knowledgeable now…the price is amazing for all that you get, I’m a fan and I would also use a mouse instead of the pad. It actually has a pretty good price tag too. I have been researching tablets…this one has a good balance of what it offers and price. Thanks for the great review!!!

  19. Definitely would have looked past this-always thinking the ‘popular brand names’ are the way to go in technology. I like that your review gives great details, pros and cons, allowing the consumer to weigh options. Not a hefty laptop and also not stuck at a desk! Thanks!

  23. This would be awesome for homeschooling my son! He is at the age that all of his friends have a tablet except for him.

  24. It’s nice that this comes with a free year of Office 365. I would give this to my teen daughter for doing her school work.

  25. This nextbook 10 sounds just like what I need. My tablet recently stopped working so this one sounds great! I like that it has a detachable keyboard also.

  33. Wow, this nextbook does seem like a really good deal for the money. I am in need of new laptop. Mine is a dinosaur and I rarely use it. I’m always hogging my boyfriend’s laptop. haha. I like that the nextbook can be a tablet or you can attach the keyboard. That is so cool.

  34. Probably wouldn’t have been a top choice, but after reading your review- I would definitely consider it! It seems to be quite capable and efficient! And A Great Price! Thanks for the review! 🙂

  47. I love that this has touch-screen capabilities! It’s neat too that it comes with a year of Office. I like the fact it could be used as a tablet or as a laptop.

  48. I don’t have a laptop or tablet; this sounds like a really good one to get. Thanks a lot for posting this review.

  49. I have been searching for a tablet for months now! They either don’t fit with what I need it for, or they were too expensive! This Nextbook 10 sounds fabulous! Coming with Windows on it, is all I need! And, the detachable keyboard makes it all the more attractive!!!

  50. This would be a great gift for my husband who does a lot of traveling for business and has to lug around the big, heavy laptop to be able to check emails and watch movies. This is nice and has some great features that I’d like to use myself! 🙂

  51. I would love to win this for my wife. Her lap top is about 8 years old. It is what I need to use to look u

  52. I really love this laptop, when I win I definitely will be giving this to my daughter. This would be perfect for her.

  53. The next book is so convenient….Seems like as soon as I get use to one thing, something else comes out to replace it..

  54. I can’t believe all the amazing features that are on this small tablet!! I also like the free year of Office 365 Personal with 1TB OneDrive online cloud storage, the cameras & the microHDMI, microUSB, and microSD ports!

  57. I live in a nursing home and carry my heavy laptop around to patients rooms so I can get on Skype so they can see their families. The Nextbook 10 sounds like it would be perfect for what I do.

  58. My husband is going to school and in desperate need of a laptop or tablet or anything, really! This one looks absolutely wonderful!!

  59. I have always wanted a tablet/laptop but I haven’t gotten one yet but if I ever do this is the one I will go with because I love the quad processer and the size of the screen and it looks easy to work, my fingers are crossed

  60. This is perfect! I so need this and its just what i was looking for to do my work from home with. The kids computer is just so slow with all there activitys on it. Mommy really needs her own to get some real work done.

  61. This is a pretty nifty product! I think it’s just perfect for my brother – he is disabled, and can’t handle anything too large and clunky. Plus, he has trouble using Android and iOs – Windows is much better for him because of all the visual cues. This has everything he needs (plus, I love the Windows 10 upgrade which will be available). Great machine!

  62. This sounds so nice. I love the size and that it is easy to take with you. I would also probably want to use a mouse with it. I love the price. Thank you so much for sharing

  63. This is a convenient size – it can fit nicely in my wheelchair saddlebag. And the Windows 10 release is so close that you could practically start off by upgrading right away. I like the ability to use the keyboard or the touchscreen – or both. I too would probably use a wireless mouse with this.

  64. This sounds fun to use and super portable for quick edits of papers and such. I’ve been wanting a new desktop recently but I’ve also been eyeing a few laptops/tablet hybrids. So thank you for your insight this will be put on my list to decide and research more through.

  65. I would like this so that I can have a laptop with a touchscreen. I never thought I would be interested in one until I got my tablet and now I prefer it.

  66. This is way better than I would have thought! Loved that it came with free year of 1 TB OneDrive cloud storage and Office 365 Personal…very nice indeed. Thanks for the chance!

  67. This tablet sounds like it would be perfect for me. Plus, I like the fact that it wouldn’t break the bank for only a little over $200. The mini ipad I bought for my husband was a lot more than that, and it didn’t have the attachable keyboard.

  68. Exciting giveaway. Very thorough review, which I appreciate. If I don’t win I will prob end up buying it.

  69. This 2-in-1 laptop/tablet would be great to take with me everywhere. I like the features especially the removable keyboard, front &. rear cameras and touch screen.

  70. I’ve never had a laptop, but I wanted one for a long time. I finally decided to shop for one and now I’ve changed my mind lol, typical. This is perfect! All the function in a smaller size. With Office 365, the Windows 10 upgrade and all that storage, what’s not to love. Thanks for the review!

  71. I really need to have a second device so that my boys have computer access too at this age. This handy 2-1 would be great to have to free up the main desk top for them.

  72. This sounds like the perfect replacement 2 in 1 tablet for my son. Just wondering if the keyboard has its own battery supply or if it draws from the tablet?

  73. This sounds like a good deal and winning one would make it even better. This sounds much better than the one I am using now. Thanks for the review.

  74. Thank you for the comprehensive review. This sounds like a great product. I love that it comes with a keyboard….I miss that with conventional tablets.

  75. Thank you for the in-depth review. We travel a lot and I really need a laptop or a netbook. I had a netbook, but it didn’t last much past a year. It was limited and didn’t have many of the features this one does. I bought a mouse to use because I could go much faster and had more flexibility. I got my netbook shortly after they became available. It sounds like they have improved a great deal. We recently went on a 4 week trip and found it hard to get online for most of that time. I had several thousand emails to catch up on and other things that needed attention. A notebook would have been easy to pack and helped me keep up a bit better.

  76. I’ve gone back to college & this would e perfect for school. And I really like that it comes with free year of Office 365 Personal.

  77. I am not very familiar with this product and seems like a nice laptop for a good price. I like everything it offers and it looks nice.
