Step2 Neat and Tidy Cottage II

Step2 Neat & Tidy Cottage II

Disclosure: As a Step2 Ambassador, I received the Step2 Neat and Tidy Cottage II at no cost to facilitate this review.

There are no review items that excite my children quite like a new Step2 one. Step2 just knows how to make FUN toys! This time around we were sent the Neat & Tidy Cottage II for review. You’ve probably seen the original Neat & Tidy Cottage; it’s been around for a little while now and came in a number of fun colors.

This newest version comes in a new color scheme AND features a few additional upgrades that I’m excited to show you today. Now, normally I take this time to show you some pictures of the setup, however I’m going to have to exclude those this time. You see, I had this house shipped to the Grandparents’ home (they’ve been wanting a playhouse there since the kids play there at least once a week) and my father-in-law, in his excitement to show the kids, had it assembled before I arrived. He said that assembly was really easy (he did it on his own without any help) and straightforward. Having an electric drill will speed things up, however you can also use a screwdriver. When it’s completed, it will look like this:

Yes, even the dog (meet Gunner the collie) loves the Neat and Tidy Cottage II!

Let’s start by talking about the color. A few months ago we reviewed the Step2 Alpine Ridge Climber and Slide. I love the natural, earth-tone colors of the climber & slide, and the new Neat & Tidy Cottage II uses those same colors. The result is a toy that looks great both inside and outside of your home.  The Neat & Tidy Cottage II looks great in the yard next to the Alpine Ridge Climber and Slide.

Step2 includes some fun features in this cottage to make it feel like a real home. My kids are delighted that their house has a working doorbell (and I’m delighted that it’s not obnoxiously loud). The door opens and closes, as do the shutters. Jacob especially loves to play peek-a-boo with the shutters. He thinks it’s hilarious to fling them open and “scare” me with a loud “BOO!”.

Inside you’ll find a sink with an attached table and a built-in seat for your little one. Attached to the opposite side of the sink you’ll find a grill, perfect for your little one’s next cookout. You’ll also find a clock with hands that move and a telephone inside the cottage. This cottage features a built-in floor with drain-holes, which is especially nice if you want to put this cottage outside. The last special feature is a built-in flower box at the front, that your children could use to plant real flowers, decorate with fake flowers, or use to store all the “treasures” children like to carry around with them.

As I mentioned, this cottage is set up outside at my in-laws’ home, and my kids play with it every time they visit. It is one of the first things they run to play with when they arrive. We all agree it’s been a great addition to their backyard and highly recommend it! Check out my short video below for even more details about this cottage.

Hi! Welcome to my blog. My husband and I were high school sweethearts who married over 10 years ago. We now have 4 children: Maggie (age 6), Jacob (age 3), Zellene (age 1) and our youngest little guy Gideon born in February 2016. I love sharing about the great products I find that help to make our lives easier, while also talking about some of my passions like home birth & natural childbirth, travel, family life, and living a semi-green life.

  1. I waited 66 yrs for my first grandchild and 2 yrs ago this October I finally got a beautiful baby granddaughter. She is so full of life and loves playing Mommy ,working in the kitchen, sweeping the floors and tending the garden. The Neat and Tidy Cottage would provide and excellent source of play and help her increase her imagination. Plus it would give Grammie (who lives on Social Sercuity) a chance to give her something she could not otherwise afford. A gift that would be used for years… not just a few months. Her Dad had a log cabin when he was little and he spent hours playing in it until he was about 10 yrs old….I am sure your Cottage would do the same for his daughter!!

  3. This cottage is adorable. I love that it is so open air (allowing a bit more non-intrusive supervision than the older playhouses) and that it is in more subtle colors. I don’t think the kids will love it any less just because it isn’t light pink with purple and yellow accents. So much nicer looking for the yard!

  4. You got some great pictures with the kiddos but the one with doggie is great too! Wonderful review on this amazing cottage.

  5. It looks so quaint! I love the flowerbed option. My little girl talks about planting flowers all the time, she would so enjoy being able to take care of her own personal bed.

  6. My girls would love the Creative Projects Table and the Naturally Playful® Playhouse Climber & Swing Extension

  7. This is super awesome! I like the additions they have added to it! Will definitely make a great outside toy for my on-the-way child as well as my toddler nephew!!

  8. i love all the little things, like the telephone, and the doors and the cute little kitchen sink. my daughter would go crazy for this!

  9. I want to win this so badly for my girls. Their dad has said forever that he was going to build them a tree house or playhouse and he never gets around to it. He works long hours to take care of us so I don’t blame him. It would just be so great to be able to give this to my girls.

  10. Grand walk-in Kitchen and grill, or the Clubhouse Climber it is so hard to chose Step 2 makes alot of great products

  11. I agree with you on the colors! One thing I don’t like about A LOT of kids big play items or furniture is the obnoxious colors! The earth tones are lovely!

  12. Excellent review of the cottage. I am loving all the details/features that the cottage has to offer. I know my kids would play in this for hours on end!!!

  13. Since fall & winter are on their way, I looked at some indoor sets & I also liked the Grand Walk-In Kitchen & Grill, besides the giveaway above :}

  14. This is soooo cute and looks like so much fun for the little ones! I love reading reviews on toys! They are probably my favorite reviews of all! Another great product from Step 2!

  15. This is a great looking playhouse! I love the colors and that it has drain holes too.My grandkids have been wanting a playhouse for a while and this looks like it would be so fun for them.

  16. I would love to win this for my youngest daughter. She was our surprise when my husband and I married combining families of already 6 children. She is delayed in a few areas, but esp her speech but she loves loves to play. She is an outdoor little girl and this would just be heaven for her. I think she’d also love the Arts n Crafts table as she loves to draw and any pretend play. Or of course the Naturally Playful® Playhouse Climber & Swing Extension which is amazing also! I love Step 2 products as they are literally perfect from a child’s dreams!

  17. Can I just say that I love the pictures you provided and all the detail about the cottage? Defintiely a great review!

  18. I really love toys like this for children. It inspires imagination and I think that is so important! I mean, I love all of the electronic toys out there now but simple toys like this are also so good for them. They get to pretend!!! I really love this!

  19. Great review! I love this little cottage and will probably buy it for my grand-daughter if we do not win it!! The nteractive stuff like the doorbell, the mailbox – an outdoor grill and more is the clincher!! Thanks for sharing!

  20. This is adorable! Thanks for the review. Nice to know it can easily be put together by one person! I love the photo with the Collie in the house, I’m positive if we had this our dogs would be in it with my son! I am glad the house is pretty gender neutral – it has things that aren’t really targeted at a boy or girl specifically. Love the built-in drain holes since this would be outside at our house, and your note about your son playing peek-a-boo to scare you is hysterical because my son would do the same 🙂 Thanks so much for the review and giveaway!

  21. I just love that the family dog got inside the play house for a bit of fun too! Any toy that brings that many smiles and that much happiness is worth any price.

  22. My kids would love this. We just bought a house that doesn’t have much shade so the roof would be awesome to shade them while they play.

  23. i just love this blog and the amazing giveaways. i know i haven’t been a lucky winner yet,. but when my daughter lizzie seen this she made me enter it. anyways. hope i win. and if not. congrats to the mommy that does..woot woot..

  24. Oh my gosh it has a working doorbell! My son is obsessed with doorbells right now, he would love that! This is such a cute little cottage!

  25. My daughter loves playhouses. She gets excited every time she sees one. This one is so cute. I like that this is easy to put together as most Step2 products are. It would be great for my daughter to play with outside.

  26. This would truly be wonderful to win. It looks like hours of fun and creative play for my little one really hoping to win 🙂

  27. Thank you so much for this review of the cottage. While I really liked the way it looked, I had no idea about the neat little additions until I read your review. Play phone, door bell, clock, sink, grill and flower box! Awesome 🙂

  28. This is such a great little playhouse and I love that it matches the climber! This would be perfect for my daughter and she would probably love to have it indoors in her play area, since it would get more use as an indoor toy for us.

  29. This is so cute the kids would just love the Neat Tidy cottage to play in with their friends. I know they would be in it for hours having fun.

  30. Our current playhouse has been passed between several families and has made many children happy. I think it’s time to upgrade our model and break it in for the next batch of chidlren.

  31. I really enjoy feedback of items so I know before I buy. I love your blog and love reading everything you have to say… Love your page 🙂

  32. I love this little cottage! I really like that it is in neutral colors, so that it can be played in by both little girls and boys. I also love that it can be personalized the way that each child likes it. I think that my daughter and son would have an absolute blast with this!

  33. this would be so cute for my little nephew – Pedal Farm Tractor or my great nephew thay are only half a year apart in age.

  34. I love the fact that you used your kids and your dog in the review! It gives us a sense of how much kids will love it and how tall the cottage actually is.

  35. It’s hard to pick just one Step2 product, they’re all so awesome! It would probably be something to do with water, sand, or maybe even the little grill set.

  36. My grandsons would have so much fun if we won this cottage, thanks so much for offering this amazing giveaway. It is so cute and has so many awesome features, just love it!!

  37. I love the size of this little house. It is big enough for 2 kids to play in, but not so big that it would take up our whole yard. It looks perfect for my daughter and her cousin 🙂

  38. How do I enter to win the Cottage? My almost 2 year old little girl would love it. It would go great in her room or outside along with her table and chairs from step 2 and her Deluxe doll nursery set. We love step 2 products. They are well made and not cheaply put together and will last for a very long time.

  39. I remember always wanting one of these as a child, but we never had the money to get one. I’ve always wanted my children to have one, but alas I don’t have the money either. This would be a wonderful surprise!

  40. This is absolutely adorable and I can see that it has years and years of play value and then will be passed down to another set of toddlers!

  41. My 2 year old daughter would LOVE this! We would put in the backyard during the summer – she loves to play outdoors. Then we could move it into our finished basement in the winter for a fun place for her to play. I also have a 4 month old daughter that would love to play in it when she’s old enough. They would love to play in it together!

  42. I loved this review. I did not know about all the extra’s. Thank you for the chance at your giveaway. Good luck to everyone.

  43. My son is already getting a Step 2 kitchen for his birthday, this would make an amazing Christmas gift! He loves little private icolas places!

  44. I like the color scheme they selected and that it similar across different products. I like the more natural tone colors compared with the often garish primaries. It looks classy and more “grown up.”
