Summer Party

Now that summer is officially here it’s time to head outdoors and soak up the warm weather.  Nothing makes me happier than being outside, surrounded by friends and family.  Well, except being outside with friends and family and eating delicious food! Throwing a stress-free, relaxing summer party is definitely doable, and it doesn’t have to break the bank either.

Here are my top tips for throwing the perfect summer party:

1.) Have a back-up plan if you’re throwing an outdoor soiree:  Summer weather is unpredictable, especially here in Florida.  It can be gorgeous and sunny one minute, then storming the next.  It’s always a good idea to have an indoor space to default to in case of rainy weather.

2.) Protect your guests.  Whether it be sunscreen and shaded areas for daytime events, or extra bug spray and citronella candles for evening parties, keeping your guests comfortable is a must.

3.) Pick up easy-to-assemble decorations to add a bit of flare to your party.  Colored tablecloths, paper fans, balloons  - all are relatively cheap and easy to get either locally or online.

4.) Keep the food simple.  Summer time is grilling time!  Grab some burgers, hot dogs, and chips, and you’ll have happy guests.  Plus, you won’t spend the entire party slaving away in a kitchen or trying to pull off a complicated recipe while your guests are entertaining themselves.  Just don’t forget your vegetarian friends. Make sure to ask your guests about their dietary preferences or special needs so you can accommodate them.  It’s easy to pick up a package of veggie burgers, and it’s a thoughtful gesture for your guests.

5.) Cold beverages are a must!  Lemonade, iced teas, water flavored with fresh lemon slices – all of these are simple, yet a little fancier than your average soft drinks.  Again, you don’t have to break the bank by offering high priced individual servings – set out pitchers and buckets of ice and let your guests serve themselves.

6.) Don’t forget dessert!   Again, keep it easy.  I recently planned a get-together with family and since my nieces love cupcakes, we baked them together.  I also served fun and yummy Bomb Pop treats!  They are patriotic and so yummy!  I love that I can pick them up at my local Publix too!

  3. Angela Hendricks :

My tip would be to plan ahead and make sure you have plenty of food!

  4. My biggest tip is to overestimate how much ice and beverages you think will be needed!

  5. Marner Campbell Benjamin :

Have everything—cups, napkins, enough chips,,drinks—-and watermelon or bring a big cake for dessert! Opps—and don’t forget ICE and the ice chest! GRILL and Grill all day! Have Fun!

  6. Keep it simple. The more you try to do the more stressed you get and the less you can enjoy the party. Plus if you are stressed the kids will feel it and then no one will have fun. Bigger is not always better.

  7. Always make sure you have citronella candles or some other protection against bugs. Nothing can ruin a summer party like bug bites!
