Our big summer project this year was to make our backyard a usable space for our family. The kids are older now and want to spend time out there, so we put in a patio and a mulched section with a new swing set. It’s probably the best utilization of our tax refund to date! The kids want to (and do) spend hours out there enjoying the fresh air. The only problem with our backyard is that in the afternoons, the summer sun BEATS down on our backyard. From about 2pm-6pm it can be unbearable to be out there. When I was contacted by BrylaneHome about reviewing one of their outdoor items, a gazebo for our backyard seemed like the perfect solution, and I was delighted when they agreed to send us the 10’x10′ Gazebo with Fold Out Extended Canopy (at no cost, to facilitate this review).
This brilliant gazebo is designed with a fold out canopy that adds an additional 6½’ x 9¾’ of shaded area. When lowered, the adjustable canopy wall can block light for optimal shade, adding even more privacy or relief from the wind. This gazebo is a BrylaneHome exclusive. It features a 9′ H ceiling and a canopy with double vented top of water-resistant, fire retardant PU-coated polyester canvas. The gazebo is constructed with a rust-resistant, powder-coated metal frame. You can secure this gazebo to the lawn or soil with guide wires and ground stakes that are included.
When the box arrived, I couldn’t wait to set it up! I asked my husband to start working on it right away. As he took all of the pieces out of the box, he realized that 2 of the support poles were missing. BrylaneHome was quick to send them out to us, and we had them about a week later. It was nice to have them remedy the situation without a hassle. Once we had all of the pieces, my husband had it assembled in about 2 hours. The gazebo was just what we needed to provide shade on our patio so my kids could play with their water table and my husband and I could sit outside and relax with them. We especially loved the fold out canopy and left it open to maximize the shade.
We placed our gazebo on our patio, unable to stake it into the ground. Unfortunately, this proved to be a mistake. Just 3 nights after we had assembled the gazebo, the wind caught it (at some point during the night) and carried it over our 6ft privacy fence into the neighbors yard. The trip over the fence caused damage that was too substantial to salvage the gazebo. Sadly, I had not had the chance to photograph it in our yard either, hence why you are only seeing a stock photo of this gazebo.
We did not own this gazebo long enough for me to comment on how well it will hold up, however after our experience, I highly suggest that you only set it up on a grass surface and stack it into the ground VERY securely. If windy conditions are present, you would also want to consider taking the fabric off of the gazebo so that yours does not have the same fate as ours.
For the time that we did have the gazebo, we truly enjoyed it! It made for great shade coverage and I loved the addition of the fold out canopy.
Buy It: You can purchase the 10×10 Gazebo from BrylaneHome for $149.99.
